At the Beurs van Berlage, collaboration is the cornerstone of our success. 🤝 By working closely with our clients and partners, we create extraordinary events that leave lasting impressions. An we are especially proud when we get to work with one of our ambassadors, like Jaap van Buul.

In early July, together with Jaap, Professor of Vascular Cell Biology, we organised the International Vascular Biology Meeting 2024. 🫀 Researchers from around the world gathered to share and discuss groundbreaking discoveries in vascular biology.

The event included a diverse programme with 9 keynote lectures, over 80 main sessions, and more than 100 short presentations by junior researchers. Award sessions highlighted outstanding contributions, attracting leading scientists and clinicians in translational cardiovascular medicine.

In early July, the International Vascular Biology Meeting 2024 was held at the Beurs van Berlage. Researchers from different fields gathered to discuss and exchange knowledge on vascular biology.

This event was anticipated to be the standout Vascular Biology event of 2024, and it certainly lived up to that expectation, featuring globally renowned scientists and promising young researchers critically evaluating the latest discoveries.

The programme included nine keynote lectures, over 80 main lectures spanning 30 sessions, and more than 100 short presentations by junior researchers. There were also award sessions recognising outstanding contributions, drawing a lively crowd of basic scientists and clinicians at the forefront of translational cardiovascular medicine.

Our impressive building, has a rich history filled with fascinating stories. In 1896, the Government of Amsterdam decided to build a new stock exchange. The architect, Hendrik Petrus Berlage, was a true socialist. He did not support the idea of making this building a stock exchange.

Inspired by the Italian Palazzo Pubblico, he designed the new building. He envisioned it as a future, grand and impressive community house. A true people's place! Today, it continues to serve as a place where people come together to meet and inspire each other.

At the Beurs van Berlage, our characteristic rooms place your events in the rich history of Amsterdam. 🏛️

One of these rooms is the Berlage Zaal, originally used by the Chamber of Commerce and occasionally for meetings of the Amsterdam city council. This beautiful 19th-century space was designed by our architect Berlage in collaboration with Antoon Derkinderen. Such an important room needs to be properly adorned, so Derkinderen decorated it with 21 stained-glass representations.

To this day, both the stained glass and the original carpet with the Amsterdam emblem can still be admired. The space can accommodate 150 guests, making it the perfect venue for meetings, seminars, and breakout sessions.

Two weeks ago, the Effectenbeurszaal was buzzing with the future of IT Service Management during Connect 24. This innovative conference, hosted by 4me, was kicked off by their CEO, Kevin McGibben. This weekend, the people in the Netherlands commemorate the Second World War. We reflect on the horrors that took place, such as in concentration camp Theresienstadt. This camp was handed over to the Red Cross 79 years ago today. ⭐ In 2022, we had the privilege of sharing the remarkable story of the Requiem of Theresienstadt here at the Beurs, alongside 'Stichting Requiem van Theresienstadt: Stemmen van Verzet' and BEE-Agency bv.

Conducted by Murry Sidlin, the concert tells the remarkable story of music as an act of resistance. Between 1943 and 1944, conductor Rafael Schächter and his fellow prisoners performed Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem sixteen times during their captivity in the camp. It was a powerful demonstration of spiritual freedom and resilience.

Na meer dan twee decennia van toewijding en leiderschap neemt Michiel Lindenbergh afscheid van de Beurs van Berlage. Michiel begon zijn carrière in de Beurs bij het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest | Nederlands Kamerorkest, destijds één van de huurders. Na de privatisering van de Beurs in 2008 heeft hij zich onvermoeibaar ingezet om de Beurs van Berlage te transformeren tot een vooraanstaand centrum voor congressen en evenementen, zowel op nationaal als internationaal niveau.

One of these artists was Albert Verwey. A friend of Berlage, who was tasked with adorning the walls of the new market with poetic verses about Amsterdam as a hub of trade. As you gaze up at the Beursbengel, the Beurs van Berlage tower, you'll notice two inscriptions beneath the clocks. Arriving from Central Station, you'll read: 'Duur uw uur.' From the city, it declares: 'Beidt uw tijd.' 🏛️ These poetic lines are drawn from a verse by Albert Verwey about this very tower. They serve as a reminder to city residents not to rush - everything unfolds in its own time. For our visitors, it's a call to remain steadfast and take the time needed to pursue their aspirations.

Did you ever imagine the Beurs as a dragon's lair? 🐉 Last year, we had the honour of hosting the European premiere of House of the Dragon. This three-day activation offered a complete experience, guiding visitors through three rooms inspired by the HBO Max series. The event was launched with a grand premiere for guests, masterfully presented by Nikkie de Jager. It was an extraordinary collaboration between our talented partners and our dedicated staff here at the Beurs van Berlage.

The Beurs van Berlage boasts the architect's name, but did you know it's more than just architecture? It's a Gesamtkunstwerk, a creation woven by multiple modern artists. Albert Verwey was among these artists. Being a friend of Berlage, he was given the responsibility to embellish the walls of the new market with poetic verses about Amsterdam as a hub of trade. This collaboration resulted in five volumes of poetry, some etched into the stonework, while the rest was compiled into a volume. 🏛️🎨 “Nature will soon become one: The people are as called From that union that controls all her sphere. Cappella Amsterdam bestaat 50 jaar. Met recht een gouden moment om bij stil te staan.
