Located in the majestic 17th-century House with the Heads on Amsterdam’s Keizersgracht, the Embassy combines a range of functions: knowledge centre, international meeting place, study room, café and a living room of Amsterdam. The Embassy of the Free Mind is open to the public from Wednesday- Sunday and offers a versatile programme that includes a museum experience tours, talks, lectures, concerts and conferences.

Have a stange dream lately?🌙

C.G. Jung teaches us that dreams impartial, spontaneous messages from the unconscious, “guiding words of the soul”.

Jung recorded explorations of his own unconscious in a series of notebooks which formed the basis for the Red Book (1914-1930), or Liber Novus, which he illustrated with paintings and drawings to go along with the fantasies and dreams he wrote down. As he put it: “Why should I henceforth not love my dreams and not make their riddling images into objects of my daily consideration?”

Today is international education day! 📚✨

Our building, The House with the Heads has been deeply connected with education since it used to be the home of Humanist Jan Amos Comenius, the “father of modern education”.

The owner of our building offered him a safe haven to write and print is books in Amsterdam. In the 17th century, Comenius produced some of his most famous works on the importance of education for all during his time here.

Today is Freedom of Religion Day! 🌍 Check out one of the earliest Latin Qurans ever printed: ‘Alcoran’ by Johannes Oporinus (1543).

The book was marked ‘liber prohibitus’ (prohibited book) by an early owner and includes a preface by Martin Luther. This piece reflects the spirit of our library, a haven for forbidden books and persecuted thinkers that shows the importance of intellectual and religious freedom.📚

The Embassy of the Free Mind is a platform for Free Thinking.

Free thinking is the ability to formulate your own thoughts and ideas, independently, free and unhampered and regardless of your religion, culture or age. Free thinking is of all times, and connects our history with the present.

In the Embassy of the Free Mind we focus on Hermetic wisdom: the connection between God, cosmos and man. This wisdom is collected in the 25,000 books of the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica. The authors of these books, our heroes, were freethinkers whose ideas were often not accepted by church and state, but who to this day inspire us towards a better understanding of ourselves, the world around us and the direction we can give to our own lives.
