You still have two weekends left to visit the solo exhibition of Jurel Bakker. The exhibition Christina_1964.TO(_2095) shows the downside of the far-reaching optimisation of the dairy cow. Cows that produce more milk also emit more nitrogen in the form of ammonia, leading to ecological shifts. Nitrogen-loving plants like nettles and brambles begin to dominate the landscape. Jurel reveals how increased milk production reshapes the environment by visually tracing the spread of nettles and brambles over time.

A new exhibition is coming up! Not yet in our renovated building, but at our studio location on 𝐊𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐟𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐚𝐭 𝟑𝟎𝐀 (which we’re about to leave!).
The exhibition Christina_1964.TO(_2095) is a solo show by Jurel Bakker.

This exhibition is the outcome of Jurel’s project, in which she explores the role of data within the Dutch dairy industry. The project is named after Christina, one of the first cows in the Netherlands to surpass 100,000 kilograms of milk production in 1964. At the time this was an extraordinary achievement—today, it has become the norm.

Through technological developments and the use of data on nutrition, behaviour, fertility, and milk production, yields per cow have increased dramatically. This data enables farmers to steer the breeding process more precisely and to continuously ‘optimise’ the cow. In this way, the evolution of the dairy cow has become closely intertwined with digital systems and algorithms.

Our former exhibition room is now going to be a studio space. Several studios are being built here for our TAC residents! Our new and improved exhibition space will be located in the new part of the building. The restaurant will remain where it is, we’re already busy working on a new menu, drinks, and perhaps some bands who will be performing here. 🎷🥂

We know you're curious about our famous TAC garden, so here are a few pictures of the progress so far. But not to worry, our TAC garden will be lush and wild again, maybe with additional herbs and perhaps even a greenhouse for performances.

The first in our series on the transformation of our TAC building.
And what better way to start than with this truly inspirational spot, a place where great ideas were born, where you can enjoy a bit of you-time, a place of meditation and relaxation… one of our very own toilets.

About Marie Caye
Marie Caye is a visual artist, performer and designer from Auvergne based in Rotterdam. She is fascinated by the notion of hybridity as a way to hold opposing forces, dualities or incompatibilities. Another recurring image in her work is that of dissolving into the landscape. These explorations often happen on the stage set by decay and disappearance.

In one aspect of her practice, rooted in her home mountains, she reinterprets fading local iconography in sculptures, drawings and performances opening up the tension between conservative extractive logics and yearning for difference, change and communion.

Another facet of her practice connects to her current surroundings. She explores the idea of technology as a strange autonomous synthetic realm, scouring the land collecting videos where humans disappear or cyborg found-material sculptures where the synthetic and the organic are undistinguishable.

By holding these tensions, her work brings the question of what lies in between, in the ambiguity: the grey zones, the obsolescence and the interstices.
