In haar project “Christina_1964.to(_2095)”, richt Jurel zich op de rol van data binnen de Nederlandse zuivelindustrie. Het project is vernoemd naar Christina, een van de eerste koeien in Nederland die in 1964 de grens van 100.000 kilogram melkproductie bereikte, destijds een uitzonderlijke prestatie, inmiddels een standaard. Door technologische ontwikkelingen en het gebruik van data voeding, gedrag, vruchtbaarheid en melkproductie is de melkproductie per koe sterk toegenomen. Deze data stelt de boer in staat om het fokproces gericht te sturen en de koe steeds verder te ‘optimaliseren’. Daarmee is de evolutie van de melkkoe nauw verweven met digitale systemen en algoritmes.

In her project Christina_1964.to(_2095), Jurel examines the role of data within the Dutch dairy industry. The work is named after Christina, one of the first cows in the Netherlands to produce over 100,000 kilograms of milk—a remarkable achievement in 1964, now considered standard. Thanks to advances in technology and the use of data on nutrition, behaviour, fertility, and milk yield, production per cow has increased significantly. This data enables farmers to steer breeding processes more precisely, optimising cows generation after generation. As a result, the evolution of the dairy cow has become tightly interwoven with digital systems and algorithms.

Studio Metaform is onderdeel van onze expositie Art d’Eco - Cultivating the Digital Wild. Deze expositie tijdens de Dutch Design Week is onze laatste expositie op onze tijdelijke locatie! De volgende expositie zal weer op onze oude en vertrouwde locatie zijn.

SENSE van is een audiovisuele installatie die 36 jaar aan milieudata omzet in een ervaring van 8 minuten, waardoor je klimaatverandering kunt vóélen.

De muziek is rechtstreeks vertaald uit temperatuur- en nettostralingsmetingen die tussen 1987 en 2023 zijn geregistreerd in Cabauw, bij een KNMI-meettoren in Nederland.

Studio Metaform is part of our exhibition Art d’Eco – Cultivating the Digital Wild. This exhibition, held during Dutch Design Week, will be our final one at our temporary location! Our next exhibition will once again take place at our familiar, original venue.

SENSE is an immersive audiovisual installation that transforms 36 years of environmental data into an 8-minute experience, enabling you to feel climate change.

The music is directly translated from temperature and net radiation measurements recorded at Cabauw, a KNMI measuring mast in the Netherlands, from 1987 to 2023.

Deze Dutch Design Week expositie is onze laatste expositie op de Kronenhoefstraat 30A! De volgende expositie is weer in ons oude vertrouwde gerenoveerde gebouw.

Tijdens de residentie bij TAC richt Terrence Wang zich op watergerelateerde folklore die Taiwan en Nederland delen; met behulp van AI verkent hij nieuwe verhalen via misinterpretaties, herhalingen en speelse toevalligheden.

This Dutch Design Week exhibition is our last one at Kronenhoefstraat 30A! The next exhibition will be back in our familiar, newly renovated building.

During the residency at TAC, Terrence Wang focuses on water-related folklore shared by Taiwan and the Netherlands, using AI to explore new stories through misreadings, repetitions, and playful coincidences.

Je hebt nog twee weekenden de tijd om de solotentoonstelling van Jurel Bakker te bezoeken. De expositie Christina_1964.TO(_2095) laat de keerzijde zien van de ver doorgevoerde optimalisatie van de koe. Een koe die meer melk produceert, stoot ook meer stikstof uit in de vorm van ammoniak. Hierdoor ontstaan ecologische verschuivingen: stikstofminnende planten zoals brandnetels en bramen nemen het landschap over. Jurel toont hoe de toegenomen melkproductie van de koe het landschap verandert, door de woekering van brandnetels en bramen door de tijd heen zichtbaar te maken.

You still have two weekends left to visit the solo exhibition of Jurel Bakker. The exhibition Christina_1964.TO(_2095) shows the downside of the far-reaching optimisation of the dairy cow. Cows that produce more milk also emit more nitrogen in the form of ammonia, leading to ecological shifts. Nitrogen-loving plants like nettles and brambles begin to dominate the landscape. Jurel reveals how increased milk production reshapes the environment by visually tracing the spread of nettles and brambles over time.

Er komt een nieuwe expositie aan! Nog niet in ons vernieuwde gebouw, maar op onze studiolocatie aan de 𝐊𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐟𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐚𝐭 𝟑𝟎𝐀 (waar we bijna vertrekken!) in een prachtige tent op ons plein.

De expo Christina_1964.TO(_2095) is een solotentoonstelling van Jurel Bakker.

Deze expositie is het resultaat van Jurels project, waarin zij de rol van data binnen de Nederlandse zuivelindustrie onderzoekt. Het project is vernoemd naar Christina, een van de eerste koeien in Nederland die in 1964 de grens van 100.000 kilogram melkproductie bereikte. Destijds een uitzonderlijke prestatie, inmiddels de norm.

The exhibition Christina_1964.TO(_2095) is a solo show by Jurel Bakker.

This exhibition is the outcome of Jurel’s project, in which she explores the role of data within the Dutch dairy industry. The project is named after Christina, one of the first cows in the Netherlands to surpass 100,000 kilograms of milk production in 1964. At the time this was an extraordinary achievement—today, it has become the norm.

Through technological developments and the use of data on nutrition, behaviour, fertility, and milk production, yields per cow have increased dramatically. This data enables farmers to steer the breeding process more precisely and to continuously ‘optimise’ the cow. In this way, the evolution of the dairy cow has become closely intertwined with digital systems and algorithms.

Our former exhibition room is now going to be a studio space. Several studios are being built here for our TAC residents! Our new and improved exhibition space will be located in the new part of the building. The restaurant will remain where it is, we’re already busy working on a new menu, drinks, and perhaps some bands who will be performing here. 🎷🥂
