We were hoping to dot away the afternoon with our Animal Illustration workshop taught by Dots + Ink. But with stricter measures in place, we are suspending our workshops for now. "I learned how to knit on the machines when I studied at the University here in Maastricht. I liked it... but didn’t really care about it. But later on, I just bought one myself because you can work very fast and I like machines. I like the technical aspect of it and only three or four years ago I started hand knitting. I could do it [hand knitting], but I just never did and then I realized that hand knitting is very relaxing, like [there is a] therapeutic aspect, at the end of the day and machine knitting is... is to get a quicker result and you can use finer yarns. And it’s definitely a different way of thinking and a different way of working also. So that’s why I use both, in one case I use the machine and the other case I use hand knitting. And it’s very good to combine these techniques; nobody does that. So that’s our (STRIKKS) way, our unique way of facing the technique."

Hello and Welcome!

We are Space & Material, a curated online platform showcasing unique workshops and classes taught by local artists and makers from the Maastricht region. We offer creative experiences that give you an opportunity to meet new people, learn a skill, or gain a deeper understanding of a well-loved hobby.

Space & Material started as a conversation amongst three friends – Naomi Ho, Audrey Wang and Agnieszka Wiśniewska – who wanted to create a common space where people could gather to explore their creative side, and, ultimately, form a community. They are thrilled to embark on this journey together and excited to meet you at the next workshop or class!

Naomi is an event planner and mama of one. When she is not chasing after her toddler, she is enjoying the expat life in Maastricht.

Audrey runs Hae, a select store of design items, food, exhibitions and workshop space in Maastricht. Hae is also the space where many workshops will be held. She hopes the store can act as a base for creatives to gather, to share conversations and build community.
