Janita Boers is hét Bloem&Blad talent van 2024. Samen met de twee andere finalisten Jules Cox en Scharissa Blomsma streed Janita tijdens de Bloem&Blad-dag op zondag 23 juni om de titel.

Als officiële partner van Bloem&Blad was 𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗨® van 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗮-𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 er natuurlijk ook bij op deze spannende en inspirerende dag. Tijdens deze dag hadden de bezoekers de mogelijkheid om met 𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗨® (het 100% natuurijk alternatief voor steekschuim) te werken. Dit zorgde ervoor dat heel veel mooie kunstwerkjes gemaakt door de creatieve bezoekers van onze stand, mee naar huis zijn gegaan.

More than 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that crosses national borders. Yet, only 24 countries have cooperation agreements for all their shared water. 
As climate change impacts increase, and populations grow, there is an urgent need, within and between countries, to unite around protecting and conserving our most precious resource. 
Public health and prosperity, food and energy systems, economic productivity and environmental integrity all rely on a well-functioning and equitably managed water cycle. 
Contaminated water by toxic substances and micro plastics is now a major known problem. Since 2018, 𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗨 ® has been producing the first 100% natural floral foam to replace traditional floral foam.  
 
It is important to realize that traditional floral foam is made out of plastic. Plastic that ends up in the rubbish heap after one use and therefore also in nature. Do you know that traditional floral foam is made from carbon black, formaldehyde, and phenolic foam. This is a toxic combination of components. Finally, although this product does crumble easily, it doesn't fully dissolve or degrade. It breaks down into tiny pieces known as microplastics, taking thousands of years to completely degrade. And eventually enters our food chain and body as well.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴,

Time to get together with loved ones, eat good food and be grateful. Thanksgiving was first celebrated in 1621 to celebrate the harvest.
At that time, plastic did not exist and now it’s a global problem. How did this major problem arise? We'll explain it through a brief history lesson.

In 1907, almost 300 years after the first Thanksgiving was celebrated, plastic was invented by Leo Baekeland. Revolutionary at the time, a wide range of consumer goods was developed. As a result, a large amount of plastic suddenly entered this world.

Unfortunately, it didn't stop there and in 1950 the production of plastic increased, simply because we discovered that it can also be used for cheap packaging of food and drinks. From that moment on, the plastic heap emerged, causing a major problem in the environment.

In 1954, floral foam was invented by Mr. Smithers. Another invention from the plastic revolution that was taking place. Floral foam is also made of plastic and to this day traditional floral foam is still unchanged and therefore made of plastic.

Strange to see that Thanksgiving was once the day we celebrate the harvest and that 400 years later everything is suddenly so different. Consumer society and industry have ensured that we have created a world today in which the plastic soup and therefore micro plastics are a major problem in this world. It ends up in our diet and therefore ultimately in our body. This is not only a problem for humanity, but also for all animal life that makes our planet so diverse and special.

Of course, we didn't know then what we know now. All the more reason to take action now and to be grateful for planet earth.

If you would like a beautiful flower arrangement on the table during Thanksgiving, choose sustainability instead of contributing to the plastic pile.

So start by being grateful for our beautiful planet and be aware of how your choices influence it.

𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘂®
You can reuse Sideau® as a design medium, though the product will begin to fall apart as inserted stems create permanent holes. Sideau® leftovers are perfectly reusable for growing plants from cuttings and seeds when cut or tore into little pieces.

You can also put the pieces in an old auction box, for example. We first put a burlap sack in it. Fill it with the scraps, moisten it and add nutrition if necessary. Then put plants with a root in it and you have a new eye-catcher.

𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀!

Sideau® does not need longer to absorb water! Then it is immediately ready to make the most beautiful creations. You can place a Sideau® block in a container of water or you can pour water on it. In both cases, the time it takes for Sideau® to absorb the water remains no more than 15 seconds. Due to the density of Sideau®, the water also remains in the material and does not immediately run out again.

Have you ever heard of the Floating Plastic Island? It is three times the size of France and is full of 1.8 Billion, yes, BILLION, pieces of floating plastic. And it is expanding daily. It has a nickname too: The Eighth Continent. 94% of the objects on the Floating Plastic Island are microplastics. The exponential annual growth is alarming, to say the least. World Cleanup Day unites millions of volunteers, governments and organisations to tackle the global mismanaged waste crisis and to help create a new and more sustainable world.
