Friday 25th of April, there will be a short performance by Sander Zweerts de Jong, at 20:00h, during the Common Bread Sauna night.
The performance is called “This is not a Powerpoint”, and will be exactly that: not a powerpoint. But there are rumours that the similarities with a powerpointpresentation are remarkable.

Sander is working on a serie of short performances where an associative archive is a starting point. This will be the first of a serie of 10 minute performances, also known as ‘short performance’, which is a better name, because 10 minutes is quite specific. And it is not about time, actually.

Aanstaande vrijdag een korte performance tijdens de Common Bread Sauna avond. Sander Zweerts de Jong maakt een serie kleine performances rondom een associatief archief. ❤️ [NL] Als je onlangs de Buitenplaats hebt bezocht, is je misschien deze vlag naast ons gebouw opgevallen. De vlag is een kunstwerk van Benjamin Kuitenbrouwer, die deel uitmaakte van de Volle Leegte residentie.
Monki Business is een bedrijf dat wordt geleid door acrobaat en circusmaker Benjamin Kuitenbrouwer. Via een eigenzinnige mix van circus en theater maakt Monki toegankelijke en sociaal geëngageerde voorstellingen. We vinden het daarbij belangrijk om een hoopvol en optimistische boodschap mee te geven aan ons publiek. Wij geloven dat wij hiermee het beste kunnen bijdragen aan de uitdagingen waar we als samenleving en mensheid mee te maken hebben.

Verbinden met natuur door middel van textielmaskers

Hoe kunnen we onze band met de natuur verdiepen? Hoe kunnen we ons er echt een deel van voelen? Welke natuurlijke elementen bestaan er in ons? En welk element wil je meer belichamen - vuur, water, aarde of lucht? 
Doe met ons mee aan een workshop maskers maken van textiel, waarin we deze vragen samen zullen verkennen. Door middel van een speels, intuïtief en symbolisch proces maken we opnieuw contact met de natuur - niet als iets dat los van ons staat, maar als iets waar we inherent deel van uitmaken.

Door draagbare kunst te maken, nodigen we ons lichaam uit om de natuur op een diep tactiele manier te ervaren, en overbruggen we de kloof tussen zelfexpressie en de natuurlijke wereld.

[NL] Deze editie van Vrijdag magazine is een kleine verzameling pagina’s uit de notitieboeken van collega-onderzoekers die betrokken zijn bij het Resonant Cycles project.
Een handleiding van gedachten, ideeën en momenten van plotseling inzicht.
De zine is net zo associatief en intuïtief als het proces zelf - waar gaandeweg kennis, vragen en antwoorden ontstonden.
Door te leren door te doen en te ervaren, omvatten de methoden van het collectief een breed scala aan benaderingen om ons begrip van resonantie te verdiepen.

Collective Brownout is een performance collectief van makers die interdisciplinair werken en traditionele artistieke praktijken omzetten in dynamische, interactieve processen die de nadruk leggen op improvisatie en experiment.
De naam “Brownout” - oorspronkelijk een term voor een val in de hoeveelheid voltage - weerspiegelt de toewijding van het collectief aan duurzaamheid en aan langzamere, meer open manieren van samenwerken

LENDING EARS TO THE ISLAND | 11:00-13:00 | .bakhtali

What does the island tell us? Which sounds do you notice when slowing down and deeply listening? During this workshop we will explore the island by ear. Through several exercises we will open our senses and deeply listen to the sounds present on the island.
We listen, collect, record and mimic sounds. Finally we map them on a collective sound map.

If possible: bring a phone with enough battery for field recordings.

About Ishtar:
Ishtar Bakhtali is a vocalist and composer implementing Carnatic music, jazz, electronics and Latin American influences in her narrative compositions.
Her work is a continuous playful exploration of sound and an invitation for the listener to both connect inwardly and join the musical universe she creates.
Ishtar is experienced leading singing and music workshops, as well as conducting choirs.
In current projects she often focuses on the interconnectedness between humans and nature.

“I am Clara, forager and care taker of food forest ‘De Overtuin’ in Trompenburg botanical garden. I am interested in weaving relationships with our natural environment through exchanging time and knowledge with the ecosystems around us.

During the foraging walk I will sparkle some of that energy around, will possibly get way to enthusiastic of letting you try some of the fantastic plants that grow all around us, and hope to inspire you to build your own caring relationship to these magnificent, resilient and reciprocal beings.”

🌈[NL] De nieuwste editie van ons Vrijdag magazine is uit! Deze editie is gemaakt door Pau Jordà 💜

“Normaal gesproken worden muziekinstrumenten gebouwd volgens een specifiek stemsysteem, waardoor het materiaal gedwongen wordt te klinken zoals de mens dat heeft bepaald. Tijdens de Volle Leegte bouwde ik verschillende prototypes van instrumenten met alleen materialen van het eiland, en liet ik het stemmen over aan de plant zelf. Deze editie van het Vrijdag magazine is een compilatie van een aantal van die instrumenten en hun geluiden vertaald naar gedichten.”

Pau Jordà (hij/hen) is een valenciaanse multi-instrumentalist en componist. Met een achtergrond in jazz en valenciaanse volksmuziek verkent zijn werk een hele reeks disciplines, waaronder vrije improvisatie, elektronica, poëzie en het maken van instrumenten.

“Normally, musical instruments are built in a specific tuning system, forcing the material to sound as humans decided. During the Volle Leegte I built different prototypes of instruments using only materials from the island, and leaving the tuning to the plant itself. This edition of the Vijdag magazine is a compilation of some of those instruments and their sounds translated to poems.”

Pau Jordà (he/them) is a Valencian multi-instrumentalist and composer. With a background in jazz and Valencian folk music, his work explores a whole range of disciplines including free improvisation, electronics, poetry, and instrument making.

Mensen hebben altijd al kunnen spreken en communiceren met de natuur en haar geestige wereld. Kunst, ambacht, performance, gevoel en creativiteit zijn krachtige hulpmiddelen om te luisteren, verbinden en relaties aan te gaan met onze omgeving en mede-inwoners.

Beeldend kunstenaar Bora Bredár kijkt er naar uit haar liefde te delen voor het gezamenlijk creëren van natuur geïnspireerde kunst, beelden en ephemera. Samen met muzikant en filmanimator Ian Merkoulov, die een natuurlijke passie heeft voor verhalen en personages en leerde ‘beter luisteren’ door ‘blootsvoets’ te ‘reizen’ door en natuur, hosten ze deze eendaagse residentie waarin we onze capaciteit onderzoeken om de stem en ‘karakter’ van het eiland te leren kennen.

Je bent welkom om deel te nemen aan een inspirerende sfeer van nieuwe perspectieven en dialoog over belichaamd luisteren. Wandel over het land van Brienenoord Eiland; luister, voel, respecteer en creër. Geen ervaring vereist. Breng gewoon buitenkleding en je warme hart mee!

And musician and movie animator Ian Merkoulov who has a natural passion for stories and characters and learned to ‘listen better’ by ‘traveling’ on bare feet, are excited to host a one day residency in which we explore our ability to listen to the voice of nature.

Tijdens deze residentie, moedigen we aan om met deze vragen aan de slag te gaan door te experimenteren met interactie en beelden met natuurlijke materialen. Wat kun je maken met wat hier beschikbaar is? Hoe kun je op een bewuste manier met materialen omgaan en wederkerigheid en regeneratie aangaan?

Breien
Dit eilandatelier bestaat uit een praktisch lesje breien. Pier heeft leren breien van hun moeder toen ze klein was. Graag laat hun je de basis zien. Leer dingen als:
🧶 Welke gereedschappen en soorten garen er zijn.
🧶Hoe je een rij steken op je breinaalden zet.
🧶Wat is het verschil is tussen recht en averecht breien.
🧶Hoe repareer je gaten.
🧶Hoe voorkom je als beginner veelgemaakte fouten.
(Wij zorgen voor naalden en garen.)

Pier houdt zich bezig met subversieve methoden van uitwisseling op het gebied van zorg en onderhoud. Dit komt tot uiting in projecten als verzamelingen aanleggen, een volkskeuken runnen, onderdeel zijn van een textielcollectief, tekenen, DIY/DIT, installatie, spullen repareren (Soms succesvol, soms niet) en doen/rondhangen bij activistische en educatieve evenementen en workshops. Momenteel onderzoekt die borduren, weven, tekenen en natuurlijk kleuren van textiel.

Knitting
Let’s get practical! Pier will be giving a basic knitting workshop. They learned knitting from their mom when they where little, and enjoy sharing this skill with others. Learn about:
🧶The tools & types of yarn you can use.
🧶How to set up a row of stitches on your knitting needles.
🧶What’s the difference between pearling your loop and a knitting a loop.
🧶How to fix a hole.
🧶 get some advice on how to avoid common mistakes that first-time knitters run into.
(We take care of the materials.)

Pier investigates subversive methods of exchange in the field of care and maintenance. This manifests itself in projects such as collecting, running a community kitchen, being part of a textile collective, drawing, DIY/DIT, installation, repairing stuff (Sometimes successfully, sometimes not.) and doing/hanging out at activist and educational events and workshops. Currently researching embroidery, weaving, drawing and natural dying textiles.

Blok printen met henna

Doe mee en leer patronen op stoffen te drukken met henna! In deze workshop leer je over blokprinten, stempelen en henna. Samen ontdekken en experimenteren we met wat een stempel kan zijn en hoe repetitie een patroon kan vormen. Wij zorgen voor de materialen, maar neem gerust oude kleren of een saai laken mee!

Ipek Şahin en Urvee Kulkarni zijn twee bevriende kunstenaars die graag experimenteren met verschillende media en textiel. Voor deze workshop hebben ze henna als medium gekozen, omdat het voor hen beiden een culturele betekenis heeft en een natuurlijk verfmiddel is.

Van 11-13 uur, voor iedereen van 6-106 jaar die van kunst, theater en muziek houdt. Elke zondag een nieuwe workshop door een andere kunstenaar die je meeneemt in zijn/haar/hun eigen werkwijze.

Join us as we create fun patterned fabrics with henna! In this workshop, you will learn about block printing, stamping and henna. You will be encouraged to explore and experiment with what a stamp can be, and how you can make a repetitive pattern. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring old clothes or fabric of your own:)!

İpek Şahin and Urvee Kulkarni are two artist-friend-collaborators who like experimenting with different media and textile. For this workshop, their chosen medium is henna, as it has a cultural significance to the both of them, and is a natural dyeing agent.

[NL] Komend weekend, 28-30 maart, nodigen we je uit voor onze tentoonstelling “IT’S JUST AN ISLAND THING”, waar we de werken presenteren die we op het eiland hebben gemaakt. We zijn een ruimte voor collectieve experimenten en samenwerking met de community, en als kunstenaars houden we ons bezig met een verscheidenheid aan praktijken: van weven tot performance, van schilderen tot interactieve installatie.

Een jaar geleden organiseerden wij onze allereerste Stitch ‘n Bitch
Dus dit weekend vieren wij een jaar van maken, verstellen, restjes textiel, wol, garen, haken, kralen, dremels, natuurlijk textiel kleuren, naaimachines en ook nog bijenwas, met een rijkelijk weekend vol vezels op de Buitenplaats!

We hebben een weg-geef winkel/Kledingruil, een tafel om je kleding te verstellen & de hele dag Stitch ‘n Bitch!

One year ago we organised our very first Stitch ‘n Bitch
So this weekend we’ll celebrate a big year full of making, mending, textile, scraps, wool, yarn, hooks, beads, dremels, natural dyes, sewing machines and finally beeswax with a big weekend filled with Fibers in the Space of the Buitenplaats!

We’ll have a Give Away/Swapshop, mending table & all day Stitch ‘n Bitch!
