Dear Neighbours,

As last year has come to an end and the festivities still linger in the air, we would like to announce our next edition of We Came from the Future. What better way to start the new year than a one-day mini-residency on an island?

In this edition, we delve into the topic of “Neighbouring”.
The etymology of the old German word Buan shows us a relationship exists between building and living. The verbs buri, büren, beuren, beuron all speak of dwelling/living or residing. Your neighbour is a person living and building a life nearby.
During this residency, we will look into the relationship between building and neighbouring. Who is a neighbour to you? What does it mean to build? What is a home or a house to you, your community, or your neighbours? Which entities and organisms do you consider a part of your everyday life? What does it mean to build? Which (physical) structures do you want to build or design this year?
It’s a residency-turned-collaboration in one single day. We dare you to come up with a plan. On this day, our space is yours - so use it! Think big! Bring what you need! But note: there are no obligations, no have-to’s, only want-to’s. There is room to make sounds, ponder your relation to nature, discuss, build, play and exist. Anything is possible, everything is welcome.

We invite you to build, design, sketch, making small and bigger structures, permanent or impermanent in one day! Think: songs, furniture, plays, films, sounds, drawings!

Join us on the 18th of January from 10:00-21:00 at Buitenplaats Brienenoord. We have a limited number of spots, so sign up quickly!

Buitenplaats Brienenoord is looking for participants for a new project: No Show! We are starting a new project to work with adolescents who are in a phase of self-discovery and who can use guidance and inspiration in this journey. We also know that there are groups of oppressed and bullied teenagers, either by the adults or their peers in their social environments, for who they are becoming. So, we aim the No Show to be an artistic research and exploration group where teens from different backgrounds can freely discover their creative ideas and passions and work on collective projects through peer collaboration.

We plan that each session will be of a mini-residency, where teens get to read, learn, discuss about and create about varied themes and topics. Throughout these meetings, we want to focus on themes related to connection, solidarity, support, and experimentation to give space for stronger peer relationships, discovering ways of communicating and relating with people, and to be inspired by people.

On the 21st of December, Saturday, we will host the first meet and greet of this project with a tasty lunch. In this meeting, we will talk about the needs of the adolescent groups and what we should focus on. In a pilot meeting manner, some of the activities we planned will be practiced to receive the feedback of teenagers participating in.

from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for anyone aged 6-106 who loves art theatre and music. Every Sunday we are hosting a different workshop by a different artist who takes you on a journey through their art practice.

This Sunday, Fenna will teach a sculpture technique with branches and fabric glue mix. The method allows for lots of freedom and intuitive 3D working. We will open the workshop with a walk around the island to collect materials and get into the zone. Then, we are going to play with the technique. Please make sure to have comfy clothes that can get dirty. If you have objects that you want to incoporate into the works, also bring them. Think of lace, walnut shells, sticks, dried flowers…

About Fenna (she/her)

Fenna is an interdisceplenary artist based in Rotterdam. Fenna’s practice is strongly based in materiality; she creates sculptures and installations made from a wide variety of things, ranging from more traditional practices like quilting, ceramics and embriodery to using branches, pantyhose and wax. Fenna regards touch as an equally important component for experiencing art as visuals. In order to create inviting tactile expenriences, Fenna chooses materials based on their physical familiarity, creating playfull interactions with the memory of the body.

In deze sculptuurworkshop verkennen we de kwaliteiten van gips. Dorota de kunstenaar zal verschillende inspiraties presenteren die zullen leiden tot een begeleide zoektocht en experimenteren met dit materiaal. We bouwen zo gek als je zelf wilt een vaas of een ander klein voorwerp met behulp van de zogenaamde afdruktechniek, waarbij materialen in vers gips worden gedrukt om impressies te maken. Ontwaak je innerlijke kunstenaar, breng je verzameling schelpen, stenen, droge bladeren mee die je in het stuk wilt verwerken en doe met ons mee terwijl we met onze handen kneden en vormen.

In this sculpting workshop we will explore qualities of plaster. Dorota the artist will present various inspirations which will lead to a guided exploration and experimentation with this material. We will be building as wild as you want shaped vase or any small object using the so-called imprint technique, in which materials are pressed into fresh plaster to create impressions. Awaken your inner artist, bring your collection of seashells, rocks, dry leaves that you want to incorporate in the piece and join us as we mold and shape with our hands.

This Friday 15-11at 20.00 a performance by Sauna Radio (during The common bread sauna) Sauna Radio is a performance telling the story of a Finnish sauna by music and theatre. Sauna is the place where people were born and in sayings people are taken behind to be killed. This performance shows what sauna is and what sauna is not. 😉

Tuomas Ruokonen and Otto Rissanen are already friends from high school. They both came to the Netherlands to study composition and now it’s time after many years for them to reunite in creative pursuit. On the stage they invite fellow composer, singer, actress Beatrice Milanese to realise the Finnish sauna dream!

Here we explore and celebrate the sounds of the natural world through repertoire from different styles as well as circle songs (an accessible way of improvising together).

Together, we’ll sing and create beautiful vocal arrangements from different music styles that evoke the sounds of the wind, the rain, the forest, and the earth.

Whether you’re a seasoned singer or someone who simply loves to sing, you’ll find a welcoming space here to grow and connect with others through music.

The choir is led by Ishtar .bakhtali a nature inspired vocalist and adventurer. She sang with , teaches at Artez Conservatory.

Houd je van zingen en wil je hier graag in groeien terwijl je in een groep muziek maakt? Het koor wordt geleid door Ishtar Bakhtali .bakhtali. Een vocalist en avonturier die graag projecten aangaat die met de natuur te maken hebben. Ze zong onder andere als trainee bij het Nederlands Kamerkoor en geeft les op Artez Conservatorium.

Elke zondag een nieuwe workshop door een andere kunstenaar die je meeneemt in zijn/haar eigen werkwijze.

Iedereen kan een verhaal vertellen. Iedereen kan bijvoorbeeld zijn oorsprongsverhaal vertellen: de naam die ze kregen, waar ze vandaan komen, wanneer ze zijn ontstaan.
In deze storytelling workshop voor alle leeftijden nodigt performer en schrijver Seré ons uit om de verhalen van onszelf te schrijven of te verbeelden alsof het mythische fabels zijn.
Seré zal ons hulpmiddelen bieden om de gebruikelijke vorm van mythische verhalen (geschreven en mondeling) te begrijpen, evenals oefeningen om ons 'spirit animal', innerlijke wezens of monsters te ontgrendelen en onze eigen verhalen te componeren.

‼️Deze workshop vereist geen schrijven. Verhalen kunnen worden verteld, getekend, geacteerd of verbeeld. Het is ook geschikt voor kinderen die nog niet kunnen schrijven.

🍊FUNDRAISER FOR VALÈNCIA - to support migrants and undocumented people who were affected by the floods🍊

Hello everyone!

On SUNDAY the 17th of November we are organising a fundraising event in solidarity with migrant and undocumented people in València that were affected by the floods.

The aid that is being offered in the region is barely reaching those that don’t hold a Spanish passport, are undocumented and/or live in poorer neighbourhoods. These people are receiving little to no help. Therefore, we found it urgent to send funds towards these communities. We’re doing this by donating money to the grassroots collective Resistencia Migrante Disidente .

During the fundraiser there will be concerts, performances, food and art (for sale). The entrance is on a sliding scale basis (suggested donation is between 10€ to 25€), and vegetarian/vegan dinner is included.

Zondag 10 nov: Eilandatelier met 🌱

Van 11-13 uur, voor iedereen van 6-106 jaar die van kunst, theater en muziek houdt. Elke zondag een nieuwe workshop met een nieuwe kunstenaar.

cose (zij/die) is een kunstenaar en activist in Rotterdam, die de connecties tussen die twee onderzoekt. Vaak maakt ze illustraties, maar die houdt ook van dans, schrijven, koken en meer, het liefst in gemeenschap met anderen.

Met deze workshop wil ik mensen en planten dichter bij elkaar brengen. Planten zijn overal om ons heen; ze maken de zuurstof die we inademen, het voedsel wat we eten, de potloden waarmee we tekenen. Laten we planten meer als mede-personen te zien. We gaan naar buiten en zoeken een plantpersoon die getekend wilt worden. We stellen de plant vragen en luisteren naar hun antwoorden. Om de plant te horen moeten we goed observeren en misschien ook fantaseren. Alles wat de plantpersonen ons vertellen stoppen we in onze tekeningen. Tot slot brengen we onze tekeningen samen in een collectieve collage. We visualiseren het ecosysteem wat de planten met elkaar, onszelf en de andere wezens in de omgeving verbindt.

With this workshop, I want to bring people and plants closer together. Plants are all around us; let's consider them as fellow people. We go outside and find a plant person that wants to be drawn. We ask the plant questions and listen to their answers. To hear the plant, we need to observe carefully and perhaps fantasise. Everything the plant people tell us we put into our drawings. Finally, we bring our drawings together in a collective collage. We visualise the ecosystem that connects the plants with each other, ourselves and the other creatures in the environment.

carlota garcia is een kunstenaar, gemeenschapsorganisator en activist uit Portugal, gevestigd in Rotterdam. In haar praktijk onderzoekt ze de raakvlakken tussen spirituele en activistische praktijken door middel van verschillende vormen, zoals workshops, schrijven, onderzoek, schilderijen en bijeenkomsten.

Deze zondag gaan we mini-altaren maken. We richten ons op één ding (persoon, dier, wezen, object) waar we dankbaarheid en liefde voor willen uiten. Tijdens de workshop leren we vaardigheden zoals na**en en borduren, door gebruik te maken van stoffen en andere materialen die we gaan upcyclen, samen met natuurlijke materialen die we verzamelen op het eiland.

carlota garcia is an artist, community organizer and activist from Portugal based in Rotterdam. In her practice she explores the intersections between spiritual and activist practices through different formats; such as workshops, writing, research, painting, gatherings.

This Sunday we will be making pocket altars. We will focus on one thing (a person, animal, being, object) that we wish to express gratitude and love towards. Through the workshop we will learn skills such as sewing and embroidery, by using fabrics and other materials that we will upcycle, together with natural materials that we will gather from the island.

An exploration day: relating through foraging sounds and tastes

Seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling, tasting, walking – we become listening ears for the Island.
Together we research what the island was, is and could be.
We will be gathering, exploring, listening and shifting our attention to relate to the Eiland van Brienenoord, transforming the harvest to collectively imagine a future island.

Join us for a day of relating and imagining through sounds, harvest, histories and futures.
For the autumnal edition of Island Ears, we want you to put your attention to a place where it isn’t usually going. Through a set of tools that we will provide you can be a researcher alongside us again, together we will learn ways to relate to the island differently by shifting focus between different senses and modes of being. The second half of the day will be open for unguided research and a time for harvesting and transforming these gathered relations in the form of sounds, conversation, and imagination from different perspectives of the island. It is a whole day event with lunch provided by us and the island.

About:
Between February and November, Clara Harmssen, Ishtar Bakhtali and Vlada Predelina have been working on a collective research and artistic intervention project at and with the Brienenoord Island. This research looks closely at the history of this relatively young man-made island, with the long term aim to give it its own voice and eventually rights as a natural park. For this, we've been thinking about being together with the island, through eating, observing, feeling, walking and listening in order to find ways to amplify its voice, its story and its hopes for the future.
On Sunday 10th of November, we will open the doors for everyone for the second time.

Crazy, nog even een laatste reel met cheesy muziekje. Ik had geen telefoon tijdens performance want die was in gebruik bij iemand anders om kaartjes te scannen. Maar… het was een hele mooie laatste dag van Alle Tijd met een speciaal voor het festival gemaakte voorstelling Laatste Tijd! Er was ook sauna en pizza en blije en vermoeide mensen en weer veel publiek. Binnenkort NATUURLIJK de aftermovie…

Ja Stan gaat koken!!

Vanaf volgende week maandag een week lang elke avond eten en voorstellingen op het eiland van Brienenoord bij de Buitenplaats. Een ideale manier om vakantiegevoel vast te houden of juist op te wekken. Voor kinderen van 8 tot 12 jaar zijn er op dinsdag , donderdag en zaterdag overdag van 11 tot 17 uur programma’s. Gratis!!
