I met with a family today, who just lost their Dad - he was only 55 years old.
I have the honour of officiating at his funeral in a few days and I spent a few hours with family and with this man’s only child, his daughter who is the tender age of 16.
She is sad and broken but most of all determined, she is writing a personal tribute which she will read at the service. She is so brave.
It was 7 years ago, today that I lost my Dad so this meeting was personally surreal, special and to be honest a gift.
Grief is such a personal journey, there is no right way to farewell someone. The way you choose to say goodbye is the the right way and everyone is different.

Sometimes in this Insta FB twitter universe, we forget that the simple written word can be most powerful.
Readings included in your wedding ceremony give content and depth and are a special gift to the person you ask to stand up and read deliver! The simple and short readings can be just as powerful as the long complicated ones! Couples often ask me for examples so I am always on the look out for new material.

Justine acted as our celebrant for the renewal of our wedding vows on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary in October 2020. We originally married in the UK in 1995, and so decided to surprise the guests we had invited to our 25th anniversary with an ‘all new’ Kiwi version of our wedding at our house in Nelson. Justine was involved in the planning from an early stage and provided us with a list of questions and prompts so we could plan the ceremony to best reflect our wishes. She was extremely proficient in all her pre-ceremony planning/communication and on the big day carried the entire ceremony off with great wit and professionalism (and sprang the surprise on our guests quite beautifully). She speaks extremely well and imbued the occasion with just the right amount of humorous gravitas that we were looking for. We would highly recommend her – and plan to use her again at our 50th wedding anniversary!

I just love this poem so very much...

If You Think Of Death

If you think of death, think of it as an old friend
one who would do anything for you
even give you the sheet off his bed
to cover your bleached white bones
as you lie like a shipwreck on the sand.
When you think of death, think of it as a city you love
a place of squares with sidewalk cafes
serving dark coffee in porcelain cups—
think of how you sat there one afternoon
with paper in front of you and wrote this poem.
If you think of death, think of it as a bus stop
on a country road. There is a small shelter,
only a roof over a green bench
its paint worn as you sit and wait in the sun
for the bus to arrive and take you away.
When you think that death may have touched
your shoulder, try not to shudder;
or if death kisses you, do not turn the other cheek—
there may be a message intended for your ears alone
so try to make out every word:
because in each friendship there is loss
because all cities contain streets you’ve not walked down
because no matter how long the wait, a bus will come
because a caress felt is never an unkindness
because a word from death equals all the novels you’ve read.
So if you think of death as dust, also think of it as blood
beating in an underground heart
think of that terrible, beautiful moment
when you were a child and you realized
that death was possible.

Help Bayleys Angels make a difference

Quiz Night - Friday 1st November
We are crazy and we know it. We have decided to step up and abseil over the side of Tower 1 Queen Street in a bid to fund raise for the Make a wish foundation.
We will be asking a number of you to put together a team to enter our Quiz night. If you would like to enter a team or would like to join a team let us know.
We hope you can join us, its going to be a great night, there will also be $2 raffles for great gifts and an auction.
