Preserving Your Wedding Dress: Tips for Brides
Brides often ask me how to best preserve their wedding dress after the big day. The most crucial step is to get your dress dry cleaned as soon as possible. After about three months, stains start to set, making them harder to remove and potentially causing more damage to your beautiful gown. If you're heading off on your honeymoon, consider asking a friend to drop it off for cleaning. In Auckland, Regal Drycleaners and Sparkles in Grey Lynn are both excellent choices.
I'm personally not a fan of vacuum packing your dress; it’s much nicer to have it accessible so you can relive those special memories. Storing your gown in a wedding dress box is a great option—just make sure you’re comfortable with the size, as it can take up quite a bit of space.
For a simple solution, fold your clean dress and wrap it in a washed white towel. If your dress contains natural fibres like French lace or silk, adding a face towel lightly dabbed with essential oil can help keep moths away. Remember, sunlight is harmful to fabrics over time, so keep your gown in a dry, dark place. Once a year, take it out, give it some air, and reminisce about your beautiful day before carefully rewrapping and storing it away. Voilà!

When selecting your wedding dress, remember that most photos will capture you from the waist up, front on. So, before falling in love with a gown that has a stunning back, double-check that it also flatters your front. Does it frame your beautiful shoulders or highlight your flawless décolletage? Or does it seem a bit underwhelming from the front? Take a moment to ensure it's the right choice before committing. 💍✨
