Warwick , Jack Lupton and Steve Preece started the long road trip to San Diego with the boats last Friday four days , across 11 states,miles and miles of Desert, over two big mountain ranges , stopped over night at Oklahoma, Amarillo, Yuma arriving in San Diego with temperatures of 42 degrees . Three days to rest up before setting up for this weekends big event San Diego Bayfair .

It is with deep sadness that we hear of the passing of Richard Corbett (Dick) truly an outstanding man, longtime friend, team player and all in all a top bloke. Nearly 40 years ago Dick got involved in our sport as crew for Warwick Lupton when Warwick started racing Matt Morrison ‘s flat bottom, then continued the journey with all of Warwick's Grand Prix hydroplanes, when David Alexander started racing Dick was the man of knowledge to help David and his then young team.
Dick did every trans Tasman trip with Warwick, David ,Ken and Jack to race in Aussie for the Griffiths Cup and in the five years that the Lupton’s have campaigned in Canada and USA, Dick was at the first three.
Dick is very well respected amongst all the Grand Prix teams not only in NZ but Australia, Canada, and the USA.
The Lupton’s got into car racing 7 years ago Dick was heavily involved with the car never missed a race meeting and spent days in the boat and car shed preparing the car for the next meeting Dick kept the car in mint condition.
Dick you will be sadly missed by us all thank you for the support and your much valued advice over the years. Our sincere condolences to Sharon , Colin,Kelvin, Michelle and their families.
Yes Sir ! Rest in peace Dick Corbett.

Lock it in! Season 2024-25 is just around the corner, starting with two rounds at Mangakino, then the big one, the 100th Masport Cup at Mighty River Domain, Lake Karapiro, from there we move to the South Island for two rounds in Nelson and Twizel. What round/s will we see you at?

Only 4 more days until we see the final round of the 2024 HRL Racing League series at Beauharnois it is going to be an exciting finish to the final of the Grand Prix Class with GP577 Ken Lupton in the lead by 61 points from GP35 Brandon Kenndy ,not to be ruled out with a top finish is GP33 Jack Lupton who will definitely be on the charge only 18 points behind GP35 in third place . Good luck to all the teams for an epic finish to a great series.

The true value of a Team !


Lupton Motorsport came away from the last HRL series round ‘Thunder on the Niagara’ in North Tonawanda with a win for GP577 Lucas Oil ,Ken Lupton and GP33 Jack Lupton Motor Sport finishing in third.

They acknowledge their success is due to their dedicated team , Crew, Engine Builders and Sponsors.

Warwick, Ken and Jack arrived in Canada back in May along with Steve Preece the work that has gone on from week to week between events has been huge with repairs and more hull development on the GP33 boat.

Race day as you know is busy with one boat but this two-boat team works hard to achieve their goals and it is a good feeling when they can walk away after the weekend with some positive results.

GP33: JLM – Crew Chief : Doug Peterson is a good level headed asset for Jack’s team and brings a wealth of knowledge, Taylor and baby Louie attracted a lot of attention with Louie the star of the show. Mike Ouellette one of two French Canadian crew from Valleyfield, Scott Liddycoat -Radio man and boat repairs.

GP577- Crew Chief : Steve Preece also responsible for keeping Ken on track 😊, Crew Dan DBonvil (French Canadian) , Dawn Hottot and radio man Mike Monahan , Mike gets Ken to the starts, a challenge sometimes for our Kiwi drivers they are more used to the pole boat flag starts which we use in New Zealand.

Promotions, Media and Merchandise : Denise Preece also liaison person for the teams. Jeremy from Shot 360 ,thanks for the photo cards and shirt design just awesome.

Team Liddycoat – Boss ! Kim Liddycoat makes the most amazing dips which we all enjoy with a cold beer after the racing, Kim also helps the crew on race day and arranges all the accommodation at each event. Grant driver of Sendit ! sponsored by Lupton Motorsport lends a hand where he can while learning some good skills from Ken and Jack.

Engine Builders : The guys that keep these engines fast and reliable , Grant Rivers, Nigel Atkin and Serge Blanchette the team are grateful they have three very knowledgeable men involved in our engine programs.

Kiwi supporters who crossed the ditch some also made it to Madison Indianna as well as Valleyfield its awesome to have this support thank you .

We have made the decision to cross America (4600km) to compete with Grand Prix America series in San Diego 13-15th Sept a big trip but great competition with 10-12 Grand Prix boats.

Next up the final round of the HRL series 30th August, 1st September at Beauharnois .

Truly a very supportive boat racer Tony was always there to help support and promote events and gave his sponsors 100% exposure every year having his boat on display at Bunnings in Hamilton . Thank you Tony for all you did for our sport .Our special thoughts and condolences are with your family and friends . Rest in Peace Tony from all the NZGP Hydroplane Drivers and the Hydro Thunder team .
