It's official! Eden Park has been granted consent to host up to 12 concerts featuring six artists annually.

We can't thank you enough for your support. This is a historic moment for our national stadium as the economic and social impact on our community, city and country from hosting large-scale events is significant.

We look forward to delivering more concerts for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Women in Events NZ 2023 Mentor Programme

Introducing Maggie Gray and Charleigh Dawkins

Maggie Gray
It was a pleasure to mentor Charleigh, as an ex pat myself I could relate to alot of the feelings of being new to a country and the time it takes to build connections. I believe I shared alot of insight and honest challenges to the wonderful world of events and encouraged her to continue to build her network with other event professional - alot easier with Women in Events! Thank you Donna for arranging this wonderful opportunity.

Charleigh Dawkins
Having moved from UK at the start of the year, and trying to break in to the events industry in a new country. The mentor program has been very beneficial and I’m grateful the opportunity.

Maggie had been helped guide me through this journey, offering support and advice, as well as chatting about all things events, it’s nice to talk to someone who shares the same passion. I have been working for a creative agency for the last six months, as a contractor and have now been offered full time employment.

Women in Events NZ 2023 Mentor Programme

Introducing Jo Pilkington and Bernie Ramos

Jo has worked in the events sector for over 30 years. Her experience includes the design and implementation of education programmes at AUT, corporate sector, national government and the private sector. Jo is the owner of First Scene, Aotearoa’s largest prop and costume hire company servicing international films, theatre, TV and general public. She has been a member of many local and national boards and was the recent recipient of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her contribution to the events industry.

“It has been a real pleasure to be part of this mentoring programme. Being able to share my experience and support the next generation of event managers is something very special”.

Bernie Ramos
Events is the industry I wanted to get into ever since finishing high school. After finishing my BA degree and entering the events work field and gaining experience for almost five years now, my love for the industry continues to grow. The WiE NZ Mentorship programme and my mentor, Jo has encouraged me how to embrace my creative flare and to not be afraid to explore outside my comfort zone and network, especially with my events reoccurring annually. Grateful for her ongoing support and guidance!

Women in Events NZ 2023 Mentor Programme

Introducing Carmel Bennett and Kayla Anthony

Carmel Bennett has been involved in the music industry since cassettes were sold. Beginning her career at CBS Records as Epic Records – Promotion Manager, Carmel then spent five years running Auckland’s iconic venue Powerstation before being appointed head of Roadshow Music New Zealand. During her 21 years with Roadshow Carmel was also involved, in various roles, with major festivals including Big Day Out, Auckland City Limits and Soundsplash. Carmel continues to work in music – working with the music community as the Community Relationship Consultant for MusicHelps, assisting at the Powerstation and taking on various roles for live shows.

Kayla Anthony
"I have been working in events for a few years, but my goal in 2023 was to move into live music, which turns out is a pretty tough industry to break into as it's all about who you know. I began working at Ticketmaster in March as a customer service agent and with the help of my amazing mentor, Carmel, I have been able to extend my reach, securing multiple promotions, having the opportunity to work at Post Malone, and most recently being offered a new role as an Event Coordinator at Spark Arena, which I will start in January 2024. I couldn't have done any of this without the guidance and knowledge that Carmel imparted on me. Thanks so much for everything!"

And that’s a wrap for our Women in Events NZ 2023 Mentor Programme!

We will be introducing each mentoring pair this week, firstly Nadine and Maina.

Introducing Mentor Nadine Ackermann

I have a vibrand background in hospitality, training, event management and live music operations. Presently, with a passion for biophilic solutions, I serve as the sales lead for a local plantscaping business.

I've coached teams across three different industries and have been a proud participant in the Women In Events program for three years.
I am insanely proud of my 2023 mentee, Maina.

This extraordinary young woman is the most voracious sponge for knowledge and absorbs information like no one I've ever worked with before. It has been remarkable to watch her joyfully knock down challenge after challenge, never once losing stride.

Another huge congratulations for all you've achieved this year, Maina. You far exceeded my expectations.

Introducing Mentee Maina Wilson-Fale

Emailing Donna to ask if I could be a mentee for this year’s Women in Events intake was the best decision I made. Shout out to Kayla Rose for advising me to do so while we walked around Real Groovy (I always love a good women uplifting other women moment).

Nadine Ackermann - My mentor. A woman with great tools on how to BE. She came at a time where I felt so defeated in my personal and professional life. In our first meeting my body was filled with fear and anxiety as I expressed how I wanted a better job alongside a long list of other stressors I had going on.

Nadine worked with the skills I had, sharpened them with books and words of encouragement but ultimately advised me to slow down. Upon reflection, I now know I already had what it takes to be successful in life - I just needed someone to believe in me and that is what Nadine did.

Under Nadine’s guidance I managed to secure a full-time job with APRA AMCOS NZ, learn how to bring myself to the present moment and set boundaries. I am super grateful to have had this opportunity for FREE. I highly recommend Women In Events to those who are ready to achieve their goals for 2024.

Thank you Women in Events!
