Celebrating 34 years of Aotea – Te Pokapū | Aotea Centre

Yesterday, 9 September 2024, marked 34 years since Aotea Centre first opened its doors. Over the decades, this iconic venue has hosted countless events from conferences, tradeshows, gala dinners and multiple major international conventions to comedy shows, the ballet and rock concerts. From its early days to its recent refurbishments with sustainability and technology in mind, Aotea Centre has continually evolved to better serve our community and clients making it a much-loved landmark for all who pass through.

Throwing back to the amazing Celebrity Speakers Showcase, where Genevieve Mora, Jemarl Paerata, Shane Cameron and MC Sarah Cowley Ross from Celebrity Speakers NZ entertained guests in The Gallery’s Auditorium (perfect for up to 140 pax). On April 27 2024, it will be one year since the Viaduct Events Centre reopened its doors for events!

It has hosted a vast variety of premium events during this time, including the Helloworld Gala Dinner, Dental Expo, The OFC 29th Ordinary Congress, Best Design Awards, and New Zealander of the Year. It put its best foot forward for Auckland Live events including NZ Fashion Week, the Auckland Art Fair, Winetopia, and Takurua. And the venue was at the heart of major events including the Auckland Boat Show, Rainbow Games, Moana Festival, Auckland Wooden Boat Festival.

With six versatile events spaces, stunning harbour views, and an excellent Wynyard Quarter location that puts it a short walk from Auckland’s amazing accommodation, dining and activity options, it’s great to have this iconic Auckland venue back doing what it does best. We've started the new year with exciting team announcements!

Our much-loved Business Development Manager, Danielle Ouwejan, is currently on maternity leave and will be away from the business until the end of 2024.

In the interim, Vincent Park has stepped into Dani’s role as Business Development Manager on a year long secondment. Vincent’s hard work and dedication has truly paid off and we are excited to see him thrive in his new role. Congratulations, Vincent, on this well-deserved opportunity.

In addition, we look forward to welcoming back Charmaine Hylla following maternity leave to the ACVE team from February 2024. She will join Vincent as Business Development Manager in a permanent capacity. With an extensive background in the tourism and business events industry, knowledge of the conventions market and her strategic focus to achieve business goals, Charmaine is an invaluable asset to the ACVE Sales Team.

We were delighted to welcome the Best Design Awards back to the Viaduct Events Centre on October 6.

As befitting an evening celebrating the best in New Zealand graphic, spatial, product, digital and motion design, it was a spectacular looking event. Our talented in-house audio-visual team pulled out all the stops for a wonderful showcase of their expertise, which even included hand making the disco balls for the afterparty!

A few months ago, we had the privilege of hosting the 32nd World Conference of the IALP (International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders) at Aotea – Te Pokapū | Aotea Centre.

Themed ‘Together Towards Tomorrow’, it attracted more than 1000 professionals from the international and community with the vision to facilitate better understanding, knowledge and quality of life for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. Not only did these delegates get to learn from and network with like-minded peers, but they also brought vibrancy and positive economic benefits to Auckland.

Thanks to The New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association and the New Zealand Audiological Society for choosing us to host this prestigious event.

Richard has a wealth of experience across the convention and hotel industry and has had a long connection with many areas of our organisation, our people, and colleagues. Working across various conventions activity and hotel partnerships including technical sales services and leveraging performing arts partnerships with both Auckland Live and our city’s key resident companies and festivals.

We’re thrilled to have Richard joining us at such an exciting time for our industry, with the return of Viaduct Events Centre back to our portfolio of iconic venues. The Viaduct Events Centre boasts six stunning spaces and will reopen to business events from 27th April.

Sheena and Danielle had the privilege of hosting a group of international incentive buyers and media to a fabulous dinner on The Civic stage. The tour started with viewings of the unique event spaces and the night began when the guests reached their final destination on the stage, entering from back of house and revealing the auditorium and the stars.
A big thank you to our partners at the Auckland Convention Bureau for giving us the opportunity to showcase one of our fabulous venues. We were delighted to work alongside The Events Group for the beautiful theming, and Urban Gourmet for the delicious kai, and being able to showcase the incredible bespoke experiences we have on offer for International conferences and incentives visiting Auckland for their events.

Aotea - Te Pokapū is bringing art to life this month with Renaissance - The Age of Genius happening down in the Hunua Rooms. 🎨

Experience immersive artworks from unparalleled Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and more through large-scale projections from floor to ceiling.

The Hunua Rooms were designed with the idea of creating a contemporary event space that would keep up with the ever-changing landscape of modern-day events so it is truly fitting for the unique multimedia production.

The exhibition has been extended due to demand and is open daily until 12 Feb, 10am to 5pm (last entry at 4:30pm) and standard tickets are valid for single entry ANY day of the season.
