Our next Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition opens on 16 November, but you can enjoy world-class sculptural works all year round at the Gardens.
James Wright’s large fantastical creatures made out of corten steel are inspired by the Gondwana Arboretum where they are located. Made in 2015, his ‘Ratiti Mya’ suggest the flightless ratites, to which our moa and kiwi are related, that roamed Gondwana millions of years ago.

We took the opportunity to utilise a stretch tent that was installed in the Glade Garden at the Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Planning for the 2024–25 Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition.
Recently our successful artists met up at the Artists’ Working Day at Auckland Botanic Gardens – a day of scoping out the logistics of this outdoor sculpture exhibition.
We wish them all well with developing their works for the exhibition – opening on 16 November.
