Our junior Gladiators game got cancelled today due to wet weather but didn't stop our team from playing they played against each other and loved every minute of it

Now the dust has settled and the hangover is gone(nearly) the bell block Gladiators would just like to thank each and every one of Youse for your overwhelming support this year. Us as players felt every bit of support, to see the support on the sidelines not only at our home games but travelling with us was a massive driving force so again thank you to you all 🙏 . We gave everything we had to give this community a trophy and although we fell just short we are determined to come back again to give it another go!l and finish what we have started! Our big goal when a core group of us came together last year was to build this club back up to where they deserve to be, to see our kids and the future Gladiators look up to us so they can one day take over wearing this great Green and Gold jersey and feel this brotherhood and family we feel right now. To our Sponsors Harcourts Powerworx Plumbing Tyres thank you these clubs aren't able to function and carry on without youse so please get out and support them whenever you can. Lastly to our rock of the Club Deb Mitchell it's hard to find words to thank you but the mahi you do for us is never taken for granted. Our Bell Block Gladiators:
These brave brothers from Bell Block epitomise what it means to have each other’s back and bring pride to their families, their club and the Bell Block village. Throughout the season, they have beaten the odds by defeating significantly better-resourced clubs, training in the dark on a regular basis, and dealing with considerable fixture and injury disruption, but they have relented by sticking together and doing whatever it takes to see this special club flourish.
The team has been so expertly lead by their inspirational leader Jaron Schischka, an exceptionally talented full back with a good turn of speed, excellent communication skills and impressive defensive organisation. Jaron has been well supported by inspirational midfielder Ale Feaunati who’s physical presence on the field is only equalled by his calm and respectful demeanour off it. Together with highly skilled playmakers Caleb Ritai and Stace Nepia these talented men (amongst many in the team) have set the competition alight with free flowing and entertaining Rugby.
One of Bell Blocks finest players is also one of their least heralded as there simply isn’t words that could hold enough weight to describe what Nathan Ransfield brings to this team every week and every year that he has been involved in this club. Grit must run in the family because his brother in law Hoani Russell is one of the finest openside flankers going around and tops the tackle count and on ball involvements in every game.
Its impossible to talk about this team without talking about mentioning the deeds of the likely competition MVP Shaye Hill. This is Shaye’s first year at the club and it no coincidence that success has followed. Shaye’s game knowledge, his carries and efforts in his core roles has raised the standard of everyone around him and his defensive effort and organisation is why Bell Blocks defence has been described as a green and yellow wall.
This special team would not be the team it is without the men who have worn the jersey before them and without the boys who front every year. Braeden Pomana has played all his footy for this club and has championed the culture every year. Levi Muraahi has played pretty much every position for this club and tears into everything he does. Chris Parker is a special special player that is only just now getting the chance late in his career to show the city what he can do. Iriapa Rarere is an absolute stalwart for this club that plays his heart out at every chance and lastly Joseph Smith is a veteran of 20+ years for the club and continues to impress in every game he plays.
Volunteers are what make clubs run in New Zealand and there isn’t a volunteer that does more for a club than what Debbie Mitchell does. She is the manager, the cook, the bar manager and the club captain. Thank you, Debbie, the boys love you and are playing this weekend to repay your efforts over the last ten or so years.
Lastly It is with great sadness that lifelong club member Grant Suthon passed away this week. Any person who has had anything to do with this special club over the past 50 odd years has had their lives blessed by your presence, wisdom and hilarious conversations. No one has been Bell Block harder and no one was prouder than you were when you saw boys take down Kaitake last weekend. This loss feels insurmountable, but we know you’ll be resting easy seeing your dream of this club competing with the best clubs in the province for championships realised as the boys take on Patea this weekend.
