Can’t wait for another night in the cave at Mahi Wines!

To celebrate budbreak, and more, we are hosting a dinner in the cave here at Mahi. Sander and the team have put together a great menu to match our wines, both new and aged. Always a fun night it will be in the evening of October 5th and is $195 pp inclusive of paired wines. After a great response from our wine club, The Wild Bunch, there are only very limited tickets available, so if you are keen please email [email protected] and the tickets will be allocated on time of reception.

FAREWELL to Karaka’s most stunning smile ❤️ Tettra! Karaka Central’s loved Front of House staff member is returning home to be in Cambodia with her family. Today is her last day so pop in & say bye!

-What are you looking most forward to about going home? Seeing my family, the food & smells of my homeland.

- What is your favourite food? Cambodian food has French influence, I like Beef Loclak which you can buy all over at small restaurants & Fish Amok - a Khmer steamed fish curry, our national dish.

-Where would you recommend people travelled to if visiting Cambodia? Get a Tuk Tuk to travel in the fresh air around the provinces.
Our capital, Siam Reep - ancient temples, floating village, shops & gifts. Stay 2 weeks to look around!

- What’s something from Karaka that you think people should try? Coffee & Cake! Also the salads & the teas. I love the peppermint tea, the smell is beautiful! 🍵

- What did you enjoy about being at Karaka? Learning new skills, especially coffee! I enjoy the lovely team & kind customers.

MEET THE TEAM: Karaka Admin Extraordinaire - Ank ❤️

Ank is a Southern Dutch lass who decades ago fell deeply in love with New Zealand and we’re proud to call her one of Karaka’s own.

Ank is our phenomenal background Karaka glue - overseeing accounts and all officey things - the vintage v***n, occasional driver, a people person who gives us structure. Ank is a great support for the whole team & especially Sander with the Dutch connection.

A devoted Mother of three who is heavily community focussed and a selfless volunteer.
An outdoor enthusiast - under and above the water. Ank loves to travel and explore new places. She was brought to NZ by a possible career in the wine industry … the milkman in her home town knew someone from Marlborough… And on the day she landed, at her welcoming dinner, she met the free diving Bryan & that was over 18 years ago!

- How did you come to find yourself in the Karaka world?
A chance meeting at a primary school touch rugby game with Sander & Huia back in Dec’18. I was asked “you can send an invoice right?” Love those random beginnings!

Creating invoices from job sheets & paying bills. “Gosh it’s changed a lot from then” the kids were young and it was 10hrs/week.
The turning point was Covid & a lot more admin, alongside the purchase of Karaka Central.

In 2021 I took over vintage logistics & control. The annual vintage project is quite the challenge - I need to get the right info in & out to help create & deliver delicious meals.

-What captivates you to stay in Marlborough?
Nature … nature & its people. The river, hills … the hills are beautiful, ocean & the moody sounds. I still swim in the river year round & the people are kind.

- Your favourite food?
Any food lovingly prepared for me but I do really like butterfish I must say.

- What’s something from Karaka that you think people should try?
The Harney Peppermint Tea! 🍵

I’m able to juggle my work schedule around being a Mum, which means everything to me.
