Come and enjoy the unique experience of a Mexican themed concert, featuring Nor'west Brass band, Mariachi Sol de Canterbury and the spectacular dancers from MEXidaNZ.

With a focus on celebrating the day of the dead (dia de mu***os), be entertained and learn about Mexico traditions and culture through music and dance. Including Jarabe Tapatio (Mexican Hat dance), La Bamba, Danzon 2, La Llorona and many more.

Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start

Viva méxico! VIVA !
Many are familiar with the famous phrase which is called el “grito” but many are not familiar with the story behind it

If you’ve ever heard a bunch of Mexicans passionately screaming “viva Mexico! Viva” that is the famous “grito”.
As fun as it is, there is an interesting story behind the phrase.

El grito dates back all the way back to 1810 and was originally done by priest Miguel Hidalgo. He gathered the townspeople sounding the bells of the church, to rise up against the spanish crown, this marking the start of Mexico’s war of independence!

Now every 15th of September at 11pm, it is a tradition to gather and commemorate “el grito” as a way of celebrating our independence.
El grito goes something like this:

¡Vivan los heroes que nos dieron patria! ¡Viva!�¡Viva Hidalgo! ¡Viva!�¡Viva Morelos! ¡Viva!�¡Viva Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez! ¡Viva!�¡Viva Allende! ¡Viva!�¡Vivan Aldama y Matamoros! ¡Viva!�¡Viva nuestra independencia! ¡Viva!
