Pulzar FM and D4 came back bigger and badder on the 2nd collaboration – now a two-room venue – Bass Zone and Rave Zone! – with over 20 DJs. 👑Queens Birthday Sunday, June 2nd 2019, 6pm–3am. Big thanks to Andy Poulsen and Camo MC for organising from their end. Less photos this time – everyone was run off their feet!

Great to see Resident, Cyrax and Dallas Alkatraz in the Bass Zone, all early friends of D4. (Dallas - skipping rope!!) The Rave Zone included John Kerrigan and Will Percy as Synthetic Dreams – another connection started by Will being a “regular listener” on the DJ Kidbull and MC Tickles show. And do we remember right that it was Mike Nicholas - DJ first time live mixing??

This is from Mark and Iz of D4, on the sad news that Pulzar FM is closing. Yes it’s a long post – tough! – there’s a lot to say.

Moving back to Chch in 2007 after 10 mad years of the UK 🇬🇧 clubbing industry, we stumbled across the DJ Kidbull and MC Tickles show, and couldn’t believe our ears. Kidbull played OUR euphoric trance music, from our time – here! We quickly progressed from texting in, enjoying the banter, honoured as “regular listeners”, Iz being the original “pyjama dancer,” partying in the various studios, loyally switching from Saturday nights to Thursdays – to becoming genuine friends to this day. 💜

Then, with bizarre twists of life, we had a warehouse and started doing one-off parties. Kidbull, of course, played first! And he and Tickles gave us great support and loads of plugs. And then, the ultimate honour, Andy Pulzar brought the “Pulzar FM presents Old School Warehouse Party” to us, 5 Feb 2017. This was the first of the two Pulzar/D4 raves, back when we were just D4, just the one unit plus of course the festy-style outdoor area. On a fabulously sunny 28 degree Waitangi Sunday, we multi-genred, 12-hour partied from 1pm till 1am. ☀️👽🥳

As genuine station fans, it was amazing to meet the faces behind the names. 🤩So many of the DJs who played that night became a big part of the D4 years that followed, with special shoutouts to Camo MC, Antz Firefly, Rob Sta, DJ ASH-S, Andy Zero NZ, and Snap - Comedian / Cult Leader for the comedy shows…

Then in Nov 2018 D4 re-launched as a fulltime and expanded venue, and again Pulzar supported all the way. But we’ll post about the 2nd rave later… Meantime, here’s photo reminders of the early stages of the 2017 Old School Warehouse Party – then check the vid in the next post for the full glory of pure warehouse rave…

Iz and I had to totally re-write our lives after the end of D4. But now, so does everyone. We know lots of you were doing it tough before covid. Iz was not just the dancing bar maid who listened to everyone’s problems, she was also a writer and government manager for 20 years. CV Whiz is her new project, and she’d love to help any of our djs and artists, or any of our fab regulars, who need it. Contact her about the D4 offer. 💜👍

Under Level 2, the number of participants at outdoor events has just been dropped from 500 to 100. What about festies? What about outdoor gigs? Timaru-based Markus Ditori has built his craft with net-based for 10 years, and will be well known to anyone who’s partied at Timaru’s The Factory during 2019. He loves House, so does D4 Dance, and we think he’s the perfect opener to what will become a crazy night of piracy and psytrance. Give him the D4 welcome to his first Chch gig!
