I thought it was about time to properly introduce myself.
I’m Jess, the founder of Joli Good Food 💫
I’ve been in the food industry now for over 20 years and what a ride it has been.
Since finishing my tertiary education in the early 2000’s, I’ve had many different kitchen roles.
Starting from the bottom where I spent my time peeling buckets of onions and taking orders, to running staff, kitchens and giving orders.
A few years ago I hit serious burnout, landing myself in hospital. I decided it was time to hang up my apron, for what I thought at that point in time, was for good.
From here I entered the world of real estate for the next 5 years while simultaneously looking at my health and wellbeing.
Having a break from cooking commercially helped me find my love of food again but it started to look a little different.
Coming from a classically trained environment that was heavy on meat, dairy, refined sugars and flours to experimenting with whole foods and more plant based options.
As my own health and mental clarity improved so did my desire to not only cook for myself but for others to also experience the benefits.
With a leap of faith, not knowing exactly how it looked, I picked my apron up and moved back into the food industry.
I firmly believe nothing is wasted, and see purpose in all of my roles (and life experiences) leading to Joli Good Food, as they all played their part in this story.
As you can imagine, after 20 years in the industry, this is a small outline of the process leading to where we are now. An idea sparked, pen to paper followed by action.
