"Some unusual surfing shots from this afternoon at St Clair Beach. A big crew from the North Island, along with a few local lads, braved the cold and tackled big waves on their powered pole skis, pulling off some extreme airs out from the poles."

"One of the strongest Aurora storms in 20 years as viewed through the windows and roof of Cargill's Castle on October 11, 2024. I wonder what the Cargill family thought when they saw the dancing lights along the southern coastline and over the castle during big storms like the 1882 & 1903 events.

Cargill's Castle and the Dunedin coastline lighten up in the biggest aurora storm in apparently 20 years ! A G4 solar storm with around 55% moon that couldn't even dull the action, 11th October 2024.

Photo action of the Otago / Southland team + SCBRA crew over the 4 days of the 2024 Scholastics surfing comp held at St Clair over the past week.
Conditions varied, adding layers of challenge as the teams navigated everything from glassy waves to choppier swells. Between heats, there was a palpable camaraderie, with team members sharing advice, cheering one another on. Well done on the 5th place team.

Looks like access for surfers and walkers to seconds will be out for quite some time due to new slips over the last few days.
I put the drone up to see how bad and it isn't looking good, considering it was closed for 2 years for repairs after the last lot of slips in 2018.
Looking like 3 main slips this time and possibly more around by the cliff / old quarry.

Last weekend in Bali was a mix of highs and lows. The surf's been pretty small for the past few days, so I’ve only managed to capture a few landscape shots. To top it off, I’ve been hit with a case of Bali belly for the last three days—definitely not fun (see food photo for context). At this point, I’m not feeling up for much. On the bright side, the swell is supposed to pick up in the next few days, so here’s hoping I can get back out there. Fingers crossed!

I was hoping to be adding some pov water shots from Bali, but i lost my new insta 360 go3 in my 1st surf in Rote 🤬
Should of used the water housing i guess ...🤦🤣
Grabbed this shot of a smaller one i got, on the last day from local photographer, who sits on a ladder when the reef is exposed shooting in Rote.
Back in Bali now ,couple shots from kuta way and now up Amed way, stunning scenery and snorkelling but so 🥵 up here.
