As today draws to an end and the final ham has been picked up i reflect on our last wedding for 2024 and what a beautiful wedding it was. Even though the drizzle, hail, thunder & lighting and rain Ash & Hannah were the most gorgeous couple. Something about that type of weather just adds to the beauty of house, ceremony was on the top lawn and yip it rained but the celebatory haka drown that out. Such an honour to be able to help whanaunga celebrate this beautiful union.... Aunty was celebrant always professional but love the cheeky laugh and hearty singing. Sistas , Sarah Martin and , just stunningly beautiful you all are. Question to our bride Hannah ... what time would you like to call last drinks? 8.30pm ... umm are you sure 8.30pm ... yip bus will be here 9pm and we go Joes Garage for dancing!!!! What a great idea loved it. Thank you Hannah and Ash for choosing bbcatering to help with your awesome day

Yes its Saturday again!!! I can’t seem to keep up with the days at this time of the year ... heres a wee download of our last couple of weeks ......

After 4 events this week we have this weekend off !!!!! Definitely recuperating and resting some weary bones lol, but last weekend WOW!!! Huge thank you to our team for a very successful week .... especially Saturday where we managed 4 events!!!

Tuesday we were at Toitū Otago Settlers Museum with the GeoScience Conference informal evening, serving finger food and walk & talk style food stations kept everyone happy and bellyful with delicious foods

Wednesday ... day of rest lol!

Thursday The Christmas Cracker was on at the South Dunedin Musical Theatre, enjoy a wonderful show of singing with a 2 course plated meal served to your table

Friday (and it all begins) ... delivery for CEG Accountants to the beautiful Tiakina - Luxury Otago Harbour Cruises (Thanks Lyndon for dropping our boxes back), another night of The Christmas Cracker and then our last wedding of 2024 at Lochend Woolshed (still one more for this year to go) ... huge congratulations to Trina and Joe on your marriage, so nice to be able to help you and your family celebrate your wonderful union. Huge thanks to Leah, Zara & the Encore Events for their support in 2024 and Julz and Mark for making our service times at Lochend easy.

Saturday (the day from hell ... nah not at all, lead up was a bit stressful but day of sweet as!) 4 totally different locations for dinner not 1 wedding in the mix .... Mornington Health Centre had their Christmas dinner at the most amazing still operational woolshed, the outlook was spectacular!! Property Investors headed back to the Otago Yacht Club again this year for their dinner, always thankful to be called on each year and work with Clayton. Over the hill to the uniquely stunning Tautuku Fishing Club for Deloittes Christmas dinner, a fantastic venue both indoors and out and for the stunning evening it was, the majority of the guests were outside enjoying the weather and playing games. Finally we again had 2 course plated dinner service for the Muscial theatre

Sunday, matinee performance at Musical theatre so nice early dinner this day

Onto this week another 4 events but all on their own day!!! .... delivery to Cableways Bar & Bistro Dunedin wine club with some delicious finger foods, hosting Kiwibank at the public art gallery Dunedin Public Art Gallery with again delicious canapes and bar service, Thursday seen us serving lunch at Araiteuru Marae for a DCC cohort of 120 and then finally this week Friday was our last day for Musical theatre dinner service

Whew!!!! We are extremely thankful to all our team without yous none of this would be possible and huge thanks to those of us who stepped up and Supervised their first event (you know who you are). To the many venues we are privileged to work in, we are again thankful for the relationships we have and the trust you have in us when using your venue. To our clients, customers, guests a massive thank you for trusting bbcatering to deliver delicious foods and awesome service

I can’t believe it’s Saturday again already, it’s been a crazy work filled week so far 🏃‍♀️🏃 and it’s been 7 days since we had the pleasure of helping Amy & Jackson and Tayla & Sam and their families celebrate their special days. One team headed to the beautiful Grandview Gardens Outram for Sam and Tayla, always a pleasure to work with Jo and her team and another team to the stunning Lochend Woolshed for Amy & Jackson, always great working with Encore Events and Julz. Delicious canapes flowed around the guests post ceremony, then a full main course buffet with salads, gourmet roasties, slow roasted beef, Chef famous Glazed ham off the bone and delicious chicken provecale, then wedding cake for desserts .... Amy & Jackson had 6 cakes!!!
We wish our couples all the best for their futures .....
Now onto this week, 5 events catered ✔️ with 4 more on tonight but more about that in another post .....

.... a wee bit late in the week but better late than never so it wasn't a wedding on Saturday the 16th but was a great time still catering to Omexom Christmas Dinner at the St Clair Bowling Club

Dress up was amazing, a few Where's Wallys, pirates, cop and robber, hulk and Slash from guns and roses to name a few.

Started the night with some finger food starters and then a classic bbcatering delicious main course buffet ... as usual people raving about Chef's glazed ham and slow roasted beef and then some bite sized desserts to finish.

What an awesome venue, not a day/night for outside bowls due to the hail and rain we had earlier in the day but inside bowls, pool and darts kept everyone entertained throughout the night

This weekend is the start a a few huge weeks for us .... we are heading to the beautiful Grandview Gardens Outram and stunning Lochend Woolshed to help 2 couples with some delicious catering. Watch out for next weeks post with hopefully some awesome photos

When a knot gets wet it's extremely hard to untie - therefore when you "tie the knot" on a rainy day your commitment and love for each other will not unravel

What a beautiful quote and how fitting for Regan and Stacey-Lee on their wedding day on Saturday .... the skies opened and it poured down but that didn't stop the celebration. The elegant House was majestic in the rain but it didn't compare with our gorgeous bride and handsome Groom. Their beautiful kids leading Mum down the rainy isle to Dad was tear-jerking they done themselves and their parents proud not letting the rain spoil the day. Two Become One. Celebrant, geez it's always good to work with you Donna, love your calming personality and professional manner ... will teach you the buttonhole pin thing one day lol. Then we headed inside the conservatory to warm up with some delicious canapes and a bit of mix and mingle while Storybridge by Mikayla - Otago Wedding & Lifestyle Photographer took advantage of some not so nice wedding weather to take some beautiful memories for our couple. Onto the main course of our famous Glazed ham, chicken Provençale and Mediterranean roast vegetable salad to name a couple of dishes and then it was time to get down and boogie. Thanks to Paul house, always a great time working your venue and huge thank you to our team to making our couples day amazing

First wedding 👰‍♀️🤵 of the season done ✔️and wow what a way to start our season!!! Extremely thankful to Thomi and Tom for choosing us to help them and their families celebrate their wedding day. Tāwhirimātea 🌬 turned up blowing the bridal party and guests around but that didn't stop this celebration. Lochend Woolshed always the beautiful venue hosting our guests, Encore Events ensuring the couples day is as they planned and with Georgie Daniell Photography always accommodating with the weather took some amazing photos 📸 to capture an amazing day for always. With a combination of vegetarian and meat lovers bbcatering provided a delicious menu to accommodate all dietary requirements.... some canapes of pea & cauliflower pakora, Vietnamese rolls and mains with polenta cake and field mushrooms, chicken saltimbocca with veloute sauce to name a couple of dishes. I was too Slow taking the below photo, Chef Gordon 👨‍🍳 was surrounded by 6 gentleman back for seconds of his delicious Slow roasted Beef and "f # amazing ham" (as one groomsman put it)
Here's to an amazing up and coming season, we look forward to visiting all our favourite venues (and some new ones) and helping our beautiful couples celebrate their special days.

Friday the 3rd of May, was our last wedding for the 2023-2024 season. Thank you so much to Michaela and Marshall for choosing us to be part of your special day, and what a wonderful day it was!

Huge thank you to our bbcatering crew; without you, we would not be able to provide our homestyle service with a "nothing's a problem" attitude.

Heartfelt thanks also needs to go to those who work with us, alongside us, and recommend us to their customers.
The many venues we have had the privilege to work in— Lochend Woolshed Grandview Gardens Outram, Toitu Museum, Corstorphine House, Wingatui Racecourse, Otago University Rugby Football Club, Olveston, Tautuku Fishing Club, and also Leah & Zara and their team from Encore Events— it's a pleasure to have worked beside you all over the season, we are looking forward to a busy 2024-2025 season working with you all again.

Our Story

A proud Southlander, Gordon was brought up on a sheep farm in Dipton, and from an early age wanted to be either a Chef or market gardener! …In 1977 he took an apprenticeship at the famous Kelvin Hotel in Invercargill. There he got some terrific basic training under Head Chef Robert Nixon and attended block courses at Otago Polytechnic (London City & Guilds, 706/1 &706/2)

In 1982 he backpacked through Asia and the Middle East for 6 months to get to Scotland and work in the famous Gleneagles Hotel kitchens for a season. Upon his return to Invercargill in 1983 he took over the reigns as Head Chef at the Kelvin Hotel, overseeing the Kelvin carvery and the opening of the Highlights fine dining restaurant at the “Top of the Kelvin”.

Gordon remembers (during split shifts), reading the Sydney morning Herald at the Invercargill library and seeing a photo of the Executive Chef of Sydney’s new Renaissance Hotel and thinking “wow”, look at the big Chef with all his regalia. So ….. by 1987 Gordon realized he was a biggish fish in small waters and decided it best to venture north and branch out a bit and that he did! ….. not returning till some 23 years later in 2010.

During this extended sojourn Gordon stopped off taking on the following roles:
