Humans of A Y U

Meet Daisy Braid (), a textile artist, author, and content creator based in Tweed Heads on Bundjalung Country. Known online as DIY Daisy, she’s the author of Sew It Yourself—a colourful, beginner-friendly sewing book that encourages makers of all abilities to create with confidence, using body measurements, simple shapes, and low-waste practices.

Daisy is a self-taught sewist with a passion for sustainable fashion, creative self-expression, and the magic of making things with your hands. Her vibrant DIY projects and tutorials inspire others to embrace imperfection and find joy in the process of making.

In her Upcycled Necklace Workshops, Daisy brings her love of second-hand materials and community creativity together. After spending over a year collecting pre-loved beads, she launched the workshops as a way to share the joy of upcycling, connect with others, and turn discarded materials into one-of-a-kind wearable art. Each session is a celebration of creativity, sustainability, and making something just for you.

We are getting a few bookings for bridal and baby showers at A Y U Community Space.

Recently we hosted a bridal shower for Anna who loved our space and left us this lovely review.

With the winter months and weather being variable A Y U could be the perfect space to hold your celebration. No need for a back up wet weather option, space for your attendees to relax and kitchen area to self cater or use one of our local suppliers.

Hosted by Soma Yoga - Chakra Śakti: Matariki Solstice Energy Body Ceremony is coming up at A Y U Community Space on Friday 20th June at 6pm.

As the stars of Matariki rise and Solstice marks the longest night, we gather to honour this sacred turning point through breathwork, mantra, chakra nidra, and sound healing.

Wild at Heart: Ecstatic Dance Dunedin welcomes you exactly as you are, and invites you to the ritual of being wholly with the body, the people, the music & the dance that comes through you, in the global tribal tradition of ecstatic dance.
We dance in bare feet - no shoes, no booze.

Humans of A Y U

It’s time to reintroduce our founder and visionary, Jasmin!

Jasmin is a mum of two medium sized children, director and Yoga, Healing, Ecstatic Dance & Retreat facilitator at Soma Yoga, and the woman behind all things A Y U.

Jasmin has been a key part of our space since it’s conception nearly 7 years ago, first with her biz partner, Beryl, and now taking the reins to fly solo.

Jasmin comes from entrepreneurial background, having set up her first serious business at 18, a shop in Dunedin on Moray Place, followed shortly after by her second (run concurrently) on George Street. Since then, she has had other businesses, been a festival and nightclub DJ and worked in the fields of film (costumier) and fashion (ethics & sustainability consultant), before completely changing careers to be a teach Yoga 16+ years ago.

With Soma Yoga, Jasmin specialises in trauma recovery and her passion is supporting people on their healing journey, using her richness of experience & her curation of tools. She loves to fuse the ancient wisdom and practices of yoga with other modalities, and the natural instinct and intelligence of the body, and she integrates that with contemporary understandings of neuroscience and physiology.

On her days off, Jasmin loves music & writing and to be in the sun on nature adventures with her kids, while day dreaming about getting a puppy.

Welcome to A Y U Wellness Arts Event Space.

A Y U is multi zone, multi purpose space for people to use for conferences, trainings, events, huis, meetings, photoshoots, product launches........etc! We have a lovely, light filled studio space for the likes of movement, yoga, tai chi, dance etc., a community table for meetings, sessions and creative pursuits, a classroom area for presentations, lectures, AV situations and a kitchenette for your beverage and catering delights.

We will happily configure our space to meet your needs.

We are at 7 Crawford Street, near Queen’s gardens and in the heart of Dunedin’s historic warehouse precinct.
