Connection, connection, CONNECTION!

Physical activity enables our young people to interact with, learn from, have fun with others and BUILD BONDS FOR LIFE.

The Waikato Secondary School Sports Strategy highlights the key concept of whanaungatanga; nurturing a sense of belonging, kinship and building relationships. We strive to make sport in the Waikato a place where our young people feel accepted, valued, and a place where they can connect with each other.

The WSSSA does this by maintaining meaningful partnerships with Sport Waikato, Regional Sporting Organisations (RSOs), and schools, to ensure that every Waikato Secondary School student has access to quality sporting opportunities.

Our strong event endorsement process promotes 'Balance is Better' philosophies that encourage our participants to play multiple sporting codes, participate at social and competitive levels, and prioritise FUN and involvement.

Check out this Sport New Zealand article to see some responses from the Voice of Rangatahi survey. It is great to see our young people recognising the huge role that connection and sense of belonging plays when engaging in physical activity.

Sport is a great way for rangatahi to nurture their sense of belonging and develop important social skills at a critical stage of their development.
