🌸 Welcome to Kiwi Flower! 🌸

Hello everyone,
Fifteen years ago today, I started making paper flowers! This post is a quick intro about me and my passion, and the story behind Blooming Through Paper and my life. ❤️😘🌸🌿
What started as a small stress-relief hobby during my PhD journey has blossomed into something beautiful! My handcrafted paper flowers are more than just decor—they’re a symbol of patience, focus, and creativity.

Febuary 2010, during my first semester of grad school at the University of Arizona, I randomly found peace making paper flowers. I stumbled on some crepe paper one weekend and taught myself. What began as a hobby became my therapy. Grad school, being a research assistant, helping run a Vietnamese restaurant with my husband in Tucson, and a newborn? I was constantly exhausted! Life was crazy stressful, but carefully shaping those petals helped me focus, be patient, and find joy. It was my escape, my quiet reset.

So, I posted my stuff online, and everyone loved it! That spurred me to open my Etsy shop, and I just kept getting better at making those flowers. Even with my science research and family, those flowers were my happy place, you know? My PhD in environmental science led to a job at Waikato University in New Zealand for years, but then a few years ago, I switched gears and started managing our two restaurants in Hamilton. Stress was back, but so were my flowers – they totally helped me deal with running the small businesses.

Why "Kiwi Flower"?

When I first arrived in New Zealand 8 years ago, I discovered the delicate and beautiful flower of the kiwi fruit blooming in Hamilton Garden. It captivated me and inspired my passion for creating more different flowers from paper. The name "Kiwi Flower" reflects both this special moment and my journey in New Zealand—a country I now call home now. Just as "Kiwi" represents the people and spirit of this beautiful land, my paper flowers symbolize creativity, resilience, and the beauty found in everyday life. 🌸🌿😘🥝💮

Now, I want to share this passion with others. I believe that everyone needs a creative outlet—something to bring them peace, focus, and joy. Through workshops, I hope to teach not just the art of paper flower making but also the lessons it has given me: patience, resilience, and the ability to find beauty even in the most challenging times.

No matter how busy or stressful life gets, I have learned that creating something beautiful, one petal at a time, can make all the difference.

So glad I finished my first 3D paper flower canvas! It's totally normal to feel unreal – finishing a big project, especially a tough one, is weird. Attaching the flowers was a learning curve, but conquering that makes it even better. For me, making the flowers is easier than the attaching part. You feel the same?🫠
