Acclaimed Olivier and Tony award-winning play, Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie is an unforgettable story and one-woman tour de force. It is an interrogation of the legal system itself. It asks us whether there is room in that system for emotion and experience.

Fresh off a completely sold-out 2025 New Zealand tour, Avalanche City returns with a renewed creative spark and a live show that highlights the heart of Dave Baxter’s songwriting.

Since breaking through with the global hit Love Love Love, followed by another #1 hit Inside Out, Baxter has become known for his warm, cinematic indie-folk. His performances are intimate, engaging, and full of the storytelling that has earned Avalanche City a devoted following.

Joining the tour is Mountain Boy, an NZ Folk-Rock artist who has made waves internationally with their EP From The Dust and self-produced debut album The Days. Mountain Boy has toured with The Paper Kites, Ziggy Alberts and Boy & Bear and sold out headline shows locally. If you were lucky enough to attend a show in the Avalanche City 2025 sold out NZ tour, you may have caught a glimpse of his multi-instrumental genius, on this tour he will be returning with a full set.

Audiences can expect a powerful blend of fan favourites and new material, an evening shaped by honesty, connection, and the unmistakable charm of Avalanche City + Mountain Boy.

Directed by Kiwi acting royalty Michael Hurst and performed by Cassandra Woodhouse, NZ Theatre Company is honoured to bring the Tony and Olivier Award winning play Prima Facie to Toitoi on Sunday, March 29th.

Tessa Ensler loves her job. She’s worked her way up from a working-class background to being a top criminal defence barrister at the top of her game: prosecuting, cross-examining and winning in the courtroom with her quick wit and intelligence. She fights to defend those pleading not guilty – including securing freedom for men accused of r**e and sexual assault. Innocent until proven guilty is, after all, the bedrock of human rights.

An unexpected event forces Tessa to confront the very system she has spent her life believing and working within. This is a system where the lines of patriarchal power and burden of proof are not set up to accommodate the lived experience of sexual assault survivors.

Acclaimed Olivier and Tony award-winning play, Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie is an unforgettable story and one-woman tour de force. It is an interrogation of the legal system itself. It asks us whether there is room in that system for emotion and experience.

25/11/2025

We warmly invite you to join us for a delightful morning of music, conversation, and community in the beautiful Assembly Ballroom. Enjoy a relaxed morning tea while taking in live performances curated by local jazz musician and educator Chris Beernink.

Presenting, for one morning only, three distinguished gentlemen of the six-string persuasion:

Dave Boston, veteran of the Hawke’s Bay music scene, has played with more stars than he can name and quite a few who insist on being called “out-of-towners.”

Chris Beernink, stepping boldly from the bassist’s shadows to the guitarist’s spotlight, supplies the groove with the poise of a man who knows exactly how far behind the beat is tasteful.

And Luke Burns, graduate of the New Zealand School of Music and mild-mannered metalhead, completes the line-up with harmonic flair and a knowing grin.

Expect freshly arranged takes on Misty, Blue Monk, Four, All the Things You Are, and Blue Bossa — each lovingly bent into shape by these three string-slinging charmers. Coffee optional, swing mandatory.

Assembly Concert Club - Boston, Beernink and Burns
Monday, December 1st | 10.30am - 12pm
Tickets $20 - Available from your local isite, our website (link below) or on the door.
