We are very fortunate to have power here and we have chiller space available if there is anyone out there who needs perishable goods storing until power is back up & running! Ben is still out there doing the thing he loves!!

Chef doing his thing! We're lucky to have Ben Cruse on board for our monthly Dinner Parties at Decibel Central.

Ben has had a long career in restaurants across both New Zealand and the United Kingdom where he has worked in kitchens such as the Michelin starred Yorke Arms, London's Somerset House, and local joints like Craggy Range and the Old Church. Most recently he ran the Little Black Bird cafe before shifting focus to boutique catering. So he was an easy first choice when it came to hosting dinner parties.

To our valued Customer,

It is with a sad and heavy heart that we must permanently close the doors of Little Black Bird. This was a difficult decision for us to make but we are at the point where changes needed to be made for the sake of our family and health.
With the ever-changing scene of hospo and the restrictions in place it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and it does not reflect our reasons for starting the café 7 years ago. Our dream was to have a place that served fresh, local food made the traditional way in a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy. We feel now we can’t offer that, and it breaks our hearts.
We have made the decision to focus on our catering side of the business where we can say yes to everyone!
We want to say thank you to each and every customer who has come through our doors, to the customers who took a chance with us and tried something different, to the customers who trusted us to cater for their big events - it really does mean the world to us. And to all the staff who have worked with us over the years, thank you for your hard work and dedication - You people really need all the credit for making Little Black Bird the place it is with awesome coffee and outstanding customer service. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you! We can’t forget our great suppliers too. Thanks for all you do in the Bay, it really is amazing how much incredible produce we have on our door step.
It’s time for us now to have a little break and enjoy Christmas and New Year with our kids and take the time to reflect on everything we have done and plan the best we can for 2022! If you miss our treats please go see our friends at Hawthorne, Crazy Good, Workroom, The Box and Elevate in Maraekakaho for some mean toasties and naughty treats!
Our last day of trading will be 24th December till 1pm.
Our catering services will be in full swing so give us a bell if you need anything big or small.

Sorry everyone but we will be closed tomorrow (Saturday). This is due to the introduction of the mandates and staff issues. Things are tough out there in hospo at the moment. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will see you again on Tuesday! Have a great weekend

As we are all aware NZ moves to the traffic light system on Friday and Hospo is going to be hit hard with the mandates in place. We really have been given no choice from the government but to abide by these rules as the financial cost of not following is great.
So please have your vaccine passes ready as you enter the café and be patient with us as we work our way through this unique situation.
Please be kind to us, we didn’t make the rules and regardless of our personal views we still have our young families to support.
We will be offering click and collect for customers who can’t come in to see us so please download the regulr app and we can place your order in our designated area.
Please note we will only be accepting the ‘My vaccine Pass’ QR Codes as proof. We cannot accept the little blue cards or letters it must be the vaccine pass.
