Hello lovely people.
What a beautiful sunny afternoon!
There are new flowers at The Collective - A collection of crafters shop Hawera.

'Jar of joy' is a quite popular flower arrangement at the moment.
The flowers come in a glass jar with water and nicely wrapped.
It's an easy to carry bag to bring it home.
You just need to pull it and allocate in a proper place in your home.
Changing water once in a couple of days will help to extend a vase life.
Cheers

If you grow dahlia, this post might be very helpful for you. Copied from Aunt's garden.

Dahlias are known for their spectacular blooms, and with proper care, you can enjoy a dazzling display all season long. A balanced approach to fertilising, pruning, and watering is key to getting the most out of your plants. Here's how to maximise your dahlias’ flowering potential in New Zealand.
1. Soil and Preparation
Dahlias thrive in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Before planting, work compost or aged manure into the soil, along with blood and bone, to create a nutrient-rich foundation. I like to add lime to my soil.

2. Fertilising for Optimal Growth and Blooms
Tailor your feeding routine to the growth stages of your dahlias:
Early Spring (Before Planting)
- Apply blood and bone to support healthy leaf and stem development. This provides nitrogen and phosphorus to encourage strong, robust plants.

Late Spring to Early Summer (As Plants Mature)
- Once plants are well-established and reaching their full height, switch to sulphate of potash or other potassium-rich fertilisers. Potash supports bud and flower development, ensuring vibrant and abundant blooms.

Summer and Early Autumn (Flowering and Tuber Growth)
- During the flowering period, add potato fertiliser to support both ongoing flowering and tuber development. Tubers store energy for the next season, so feeding during this time ensures a strong future crop.
- Fertilise every 2–3 weeks for best results, alternating between potash and potato fertiliser as needed.

3. Watering Wisely
- Dahlias need consistent moisture, especially during bud set, as this helps the buds develop correctly.
- Water deeply once or twice a week, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. Weekly deep watering is better than daily light watering as it teaches the roots to grow to seek the water resource's, and creates a stronger more heat tolerant plant. Use mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
- During periods of intense flowering, keep a close eye on the soil and water whenever the top 2–3 cm feels dry.
4. Pruning and Deadheading
Pinching: Once plants reach about 30 cm in height, pinch out the top growth to encourage lateral branching. This results in bushier plants with more blooms.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to prevent the plant from focusing energy on seed production. Cut back to a leaf node to promote new flower growth.
5. Organic and Homemade Fertiliser Options
For gardeners looking for natural solutions, try these DIY options:
Compost Tea: Soak mature compost in water for 24–48 hours, strain, and use as a liquid feed.
Banana Peel Solution: Soak banana peels in water for a week to create a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser for flowering plants.
Seaweed Extract: Homemade or store-bought, diluted seaweed solutions promote overall plant health and resilience.
A Few Tips for New Zealand Dahlia Growers
- Plant tubers in October–November for flowers from January to May. Use the bud size guide for a way to see how long till flowering
- Companion planting with marigolds can deter pests without attracting harmful insects.
- Always fertilise after watering to avoid root burn.
