Dutch Iris/roadworks appreciation post 😂

Anyone else seem to have a constant stream of road cones around their place? They do a good job of keeping the roads usable while they work though I have to say, I don't mind going 30km but it's the full stop that gets me... too many places to be! Wonder what they are up to out there.

Wow wow wow! These specialty, spray-free, Tigers Eye Dutch Iris are so gorgeous they simply can't be swallowed up in mixed bouquets!

There will be luxury straight bunches in the stand tomorrow morning for you 😍 And possibly a few Wednesday.... and then they'll be 🫰outta here!

Hurray the sun is back today! I'm a bit over the rain but wow the flowers are absolutely loving it! And whenever we get downpours here I always think how lucky we are that the rain always comes straight down ... A year of living in Wellington in that sideways windy rain scarred me ☔... (Or should I reframe it that it made me perpetually grateful for Nelsons climate 🙏)

Phew what a weather weekend! The snapdragons managed to stay upright which I'm very impressed with seems I never got round to staking them ooooops!

My biggest failure crop was my first attempt to grow snapdragons... And then my biggest success was the second season of snaps (or maybe the ranunculus I can't decide) so these big gorgeous colour POPPING snaps are a source of immense pride this week! I really think I've got the hang of them now!

As an adult I find I don't often keep trying with things if I don't immediately do well at them so I'm practising taking on board what I teach my daughter (the boss) and giving things another go and I'd say that's working!

Is it just me? Or is this a common grown-up thing to throw in the towel if you're not an immediate expert 😂

And we have the first Iris this week! Can you spot them? Our lovely customers who placed orders for today all got a few stems in their bouquets. They'll open up for you once you get them home, they are so fun to watch unfurl!

There are a couple of bouquets in the stand for those that are quick as well (Wednesday) some mixed bouquets and a couple of straight bunches of ranunculus.

I was asked today what flower is coming next and I think it might be snapdragons but Mother Nature will be the decider 😁 What is your favourite flower? Is there one you're waiting for?

I can't believe the ranunculus are winding down already! Orders are open for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week 😁

👉 Comment or send me a PM with your preferred collection day, your bouquet will be ready by 11am for collection. We do two sizes $20 or $50.

If there are any left they'll be in the stand so keep an eye on stories if you're more of a gambler 😉

More gorgeous Ranunculus for your Monday morning!

I started the day off with Sunrise Yoga at the Boathouse which was a perfect start to the week! Hearing the ocean under the deck and seeing the sun come up 👐 Check it out one Monday

We have our first Wedding of the season this Saturday👰 Very exciting!!! I'm not taking orders this week as it's a bit much to juggle, but there will be flowers out in the stand Wednesday and Saturday 😁 Message me or comment if you'd like me to let you know when they are out 💐

And just like that it's Ranunculus season!

Mixed bouquets this week will have an assortment of gorgeous ranunculus, beautiful anemones, fragrant freesias, delicate forgetmenots and more.

Wow you guys have absolutely LOVED our tulips! It's been a busy morning here at The Flower Mama filling orders and that's the last of the tulip bouquets for Spring... Gosh they go fast!

(There are 5 left out in the stand as of 1130am so if you missed out on ordering you might still get lucky!)

☀ These days so much of our produce is manipulated to grow out of season so we can have what we want, when we want it, but we've all had enough winter tomatoes or winter strawberries to know what a difference it makes to the end result 😬

💐 So I just love the cyclical nature of growing with Mother Nature, it really allows us to enjoy the anticipation of waiting for what is next, to appreciate each flower in its full beauty as it arrives, and brings the natural cycle of the seasons back to our lives.

We have a range in the stand today, some full colour bouquets ready to wow, and some tighter pink/white mixes that will colour up at home. Do you like to watch your tulips come to life? Or prefer a bunch already in full bloom?

Advance orders are open for Wednesdays so pop me a message to book yours. We have another week or so of tulips and then they'll be gone so if you are a tulip fan don't miss out!

Hello to all our lovely new followers! (And of course our trusty favourites still along for the ride!)

We have some new people joining our journey, so I thought I would welcome you with a few facts about us, and start you off with some pretty impeccable photography lol the mini-boss is her usual self, all character, no posing, all the laughs!

🌸 We started out our growing journey when the boss was just 9 months old!

🌸 I just thought I would sell a few flowers to pay for my gardening habit but things escalated and now we have no lawn 😲

🌸 Thanks to all your amazing support we have expanded this year to an empty lot around the corner... stay tuned for makeover vids! I'm hoping to do some markets 🎪

🌸 People often ask where I got my training as I do as much of my DIY as I can but I just wing it! Girl power style! I used to work on Superyachts as First Mate, I scrubbed decks, hauled lines, serviced the generators, cleared the blocked p**p tanks, drove her across the equator... So throwing a bit of wood around is nothing! I honestly believe anyone can do anything they set their mind to, success does not require perfection! (on that note don't measure or look at anything too closely 😂)

🌸 We are passionately spray-free and I use sustainable practices because our nature fix of flowers shouldn't come at the expense of Mother Nature 😁

Happy Spring! I am celebrating with the first three tulips just for me, how is that for timing ♥ ♥ ♥

I'm so excited! This means that the season is about to really kick off... Today is a day pumped with adrenaline but I'm forcing myself to sit down and write some lists, cos phew you guys there's a lot to get done 😁 Anyone else get in 'let's do it' mode without a plan of attack 😂

The tulips are on the smaller side this year which I think is due to this warm snap that came through last week....they should have been growing for another 2 or 3 weeks yet but got all warm and cosy and confused and started budding up so here they are! Hopefully over the next couple weeks they'll increase in size but otherwise it'll be cute wee mini tulips for all!

I expect to start selling in about two weeks now so stay tuned!

What is your favourite tulip colour? I have 600 going in this week and truthfully I can't remember what most of them are 😂

Does anyone else do that? Order something and then it shows up with the courier and you can't remember what it is 🤦🏼‍♀️

But regardless of what I ordered, September will be tulips tulips tulips! I can't wait! I know for sure there will be pink, orange and purple because that is my favourite colour combination to work with... Very 70s🕺

It's the 5 year anniversary of starting my first flower seeds! I must be the only person who ever decided to start a garden in the middle of winter, but I didn't know any better 🤷🏼‍♀️

It was June 2019, I was off work with 2 herniated discs in my neck and barely able to move, and my (ex) husband had gone to Alaska for 4 months. Those of you who know me, know I don't do 'nothing' very well and I was pretty heartsick so I needed some purpose to my day and something to distract me from pining 😂 I went to Bunnings (this was before I knew I was a Mitre 10 girl 😂) and got myself some dahlia seeds and a plastic bin, and away I went!

All the books say you can't grow annuals in the middle of Winter but I didn't read any books I just we for it! I also planted all those flowers out in the garden on 3rd September instead of 25 October like you're 'meant to' and they did great!

So I count myself really fortunate that this is the way I started gardening because it allows me to use my head to figure out what I think will grow and when, rather than following the 'rules' of seasons and it usually means I have blooms way earlier than those who follow rules.

I figured it's time for another experiment this year and it's the first week of Winter so I'm sowing sunflowers... Check in with me in 80 days and we will see if the gamble paid off! I'm starting them in a greenhouse, and I've chosen a variety which doesn't bloom by day length which is when most Sunflowers bloom so I feel we might have some luck. If anything they'll just be a little small 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm currently working on my website which is very exciting, and I need to add some reviews! It is also super helpful to our business anyway if we have some reviews on Facebook or Google and I know lots of you have been so kind as to tell me directly you love our blooms...

Cafe Au Lait finally! (Very late to the party!) How did she go for you guys this year?

I planted my dahlias in a different spot this season and they were not happy about it, those girls want all the sun, all the time! They showed their displeasure by blooming 3 months late 🤦🏼‍♀️ But wow aren't they just gorgeous and worth waiting for.

I won't be selling any tubers this year as I'll be increasing my growing space and need to plant them all myself, I might even add one or two! What have been your favourites? I need to get my wish list going.
