There was a relaxed and convivial atmosphere at the Melrose House Christmas event on Sunday. The weather was great, and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the House and grounds.

Melrose Society Trustees Nicky, Sylvia and Kay decorate the Christmas tree at Melrose House in preparation for the community Xmas event this Sunday. Trustees host community events and promote the use of Melrose House as a venue, with revenue helping pay for maintenance of the property.
In 1945, Melrose House was gifted to the Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers (W.D.F.F.), by Colonel Noel Percy Adams, a descendant of the original owners, the Watts family, to be used as a rest home. Due to financial burdens, in the early 1970’s the Nelson City Council took over ownership of the property and formed the Colonel Noel Percy Trust (Melrose Society).

The public were treated to a free full rehearsal of Nelson's singing group, 'The Tasmonics', at Melrose House. It was in preparation for a competition in Palmerston North this weekend.

Jan Holt's Floral Fun Workshop at Melrose House proved a great success. Participants were shown simple techniques to create stunning floral arrangements from a variety of green materials and objects. Thanks to Vanessa Downing for organising this enjoyable event, and Vaughan Scott for the photography.
