Fun fact : Sweet Peas can grow from cuttings....
If growing sweet peas you can pinch them, that way they branch and you get fuller plants with more blooms.
Put the pinched part (or cutting) in water and after a few weeks roots will form and you can plant out into the garden.
How fun!

Lifted some of the Dahlia Tubers today. You can absolutely leave them in the ground for a few seasons to make it easier if your soil is free draining but these beds need improving so out they come.

There are many ways to store Dahlia tubers, with varying success rates. I've settled on banana boxes, dirt brushed off, clumps stored whole wrapped in newspaper. They are then ready to divide and replant when the eyes start showing in spring.

I got to make the most georgeous bouquet for a friend last week. I picked the last of the Dahlias and pretty much everything that was in bloom.

This weekend I've been removing the spent plants, feeding the soil and beginning the seed sowing for spring. Looking forward to making you bouquets again in November.

End of season blooms....

It's been a funny flower season here at Esther-Mays, while the Dahlias have been georgeous, the flowers never really took off like they usually do. I'm thinking its a combination of weather and soil health.

The gardens telling me it's time to collect seed for next season, get rid of the weeds and feed the soil in preparation for all those good things that arrive in spring.

Happy Autumn and Winter flower lovers, see you all again in a few months time.
