This month on Funkdafied we’re exploring early funk (1967-1972), acknowledging some of the seminal tracks that developed the genre. We’ll be listening to iconic artists such as James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, The Meters, Parliament-Funkadelic and as always, a bit of Stevie.

Our July to December schedule is out and live on air this week with 46 shows (whew!). In village letterboxes. It includes five brand new shows. Welcoming DJs Jack McDonald and Bek Coogan and the return of Mick Finn, Kaia Hawkins and Sophie Handford.

Next week I start a monthly radio show, Funkdafied, on Paekākāriki 88.2FM. New shows on the first Wednesday of the month which are then repeated each week. Looking forward to the opportunity to delve deep into funk, disco and surrounding genres and share it with the community.

Last night I was honoured to be asked to mix some tunes for my whanaunga Tory Whanau, who was elected as the first wāhine Māori mayor of Pōneke!

Was real nervous as it was pretty much my first time DJing a big dancefloor but people seemed to vibe with the , and tracks and I’m making fewer technical mistakes every set I do. Stoked with how it went.
