Best Friends Are Your Truest Supporters 💛

It all started with a simple coffee catch-up on Wednesday with one of my besties—my ride or die, my girl. We were chatting about weekend plans when the convo turned to one of our friends, whose daughter had just changed her 18th birthday plans a week out. The party was now happening at home… in the shed! 😅

Our friend had been working like a champ to pull it all together, and naturally, my bestie had a spark of inspiration. She knew what our friend needed before she even asked. That coffee date? Yeah, it turned into a planning session for not just one 18th—but two! Turns out our friend’s son’s girlfriend was also turning 18 the next day. 🎉🎉

Since Jay drives dump trucks, we had to weave that into the theme. The next thing you know, Mum's crafting right alongside us, and I’ve got to say—we pulled off something pretty amazing!

From personalised gifts to matching goodie bags for each friend (yes, we were told they were the best goodie bags ever 😂), to photo backdrops, disco lights, my LOVE letters making their first appearance, and a special wooden hanging of her little doggy as a gift—it all came together beautifully.

The birthday girls were over the moon, the shed was transformed, and we made more unforgettable memories with this incredible crew. 💃🏽🎁💫

Well done to all my girls who rallied and made it happen. But hey—next time, can I get more than three days notice? Aroha nui! ❤️

A Disco Party to Remember

Last weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of helping a wonderful Nana who has recently taken on the full-time care of her two precious moko. With her moko turning six, Nana was determined to give her the best birthday party ever—but with just three days to go and no plans in place, she was feeling the pressure.

Enter one of my favourite treasure troves for party planning: Hauraki Reuse Centre. After chatting with their amazing team, a mutual friend suggested Nana give me a call to see if I could lend a hand.

The next day, we met for a coffee and a kōrero to see how I could support her vision. While I usually plan sleepovers with teepees, Nana had already booked a hall and chosen a theme: Disco! With just three days to pull it all together, the clock was ticking.

Like a fairy godmother (with a few helpful elves working their magic behind the scenes), we got to work. When party day arrived, the hall was transformed into a sparkly disco wonderland—complete with disco lights, disco balls, music, backdrops, a balloon hoop, and even a tattoo station. The tamariki had an absolute blast!

It was especially heartwarming to see Nana’s village come together—her incredible best friend and others pitching in to make it all happen. I didn’t manage to get many photos (as Bella and I were busy setting up and then dancing!), and to be honest, I was quietly battling a stubborn migraine while helping the kids with tattoo stickers.

But seeing the birthday girl smiling, dancing, and having the time of her life made every bit of it worth it. 💫💃🏽🎉

This setup had been a wish in the making. Arya’s mum mentioned she had wanted a teepee sleepover for a long time, but with location and hire costs $300 plus just for the teepees plus travel cost it just hadn’t been an option. So I was really happy to help make this wish come true.

I often get told my prices are too cheap — why?
Well, there are a few reasons.
First, I’ve been a young solo mum myself. I had my son at 17, and with very little extra money for birthdays or special activities like this, it just wasn’t something we could do (though I wouldn’t change a thing — he’s now 26 and the best son a mum could ask for!).

Second, I started this little business for the tamariki in my community. It’s their excitement, smiles, and happy faces that make it all worth it. And seeing Arya’s face when she saw her surprise made every bit of effort worthwhile.

I'm thrilled to have helped create another unforgettable celebration. This weekend's boho-themed party for Tyler's birthday was a true testament of why I have chosen to take this little side hustle on, she was so happy with the results. From customised eye masks to natural ingredient facials and nail art, every detail was designed to foster meaningful memories with her closest friends. What a week of hard mahi and a mixture of emotions it’s been. We had ERO come and do their required review our centre pretty happy with how it all went. Had breast clinic Thursday and got the all clear 🩷, had some not so good news, Thursday night and Friday wow that was a hard day, on Saturday morning I was still feeling a little mehhh. but I had a party to go and setup, I did a teepee party for a beautiful 12 year old girl and her friend. She was so happy she said she wanted to cry 🩷, she absolutely loved it, seeing the joy on their faces ensures me I’m on the right path to making birthday dreams come true. This is what my vision of Cosy Hideaway Teepee Party Hire is all about, providing theses experiences to my local and wider communities. Thank you to the beautiful whānau who welcomed me and had trust in me that I could make their beautiful daughter’s birthday a little extra magical. I truly hope you enjoyed your teepee experience 💜

This teepee sleepover was a little more special, my 15 year old neice is moving to Australia and my little sister threw her a surprise farewell.
