KEA - Kea are a unique and endangered parrot species. Kea are highly adaptive and are considered by scientists to be one of the most intelligent bird species in the world.

Last minute trip across to Wellington yesterday on the Interislander Ferry.

Our Ferries travel between Picton, NZ. In the South Island and Wellington in the North Island. This is the Cook Strait.
The trip takes about 3hrs, with a max of 1000 passengers. The ship is going about 37km per hour, and travels a distance of 90km.
Out in the Cook Straight the waters are a depth of 250m. It's known for its strong tidal flows, steep cliffs, and treacherous currents, which can make navigation dangerous and unpredictable.
You can walk on the ship or drive on. Also freight trucks and train go on board aswell.

Love listening to the Morepork at night. One day I'll get lucky enough to take my own photo of one. In the meantime, here's some information on the Morepork.....

The Morepork owl is a smallish, brown owl species found in New Zealand.
The morepork has dark-brown plumage and golden-yellow eyes.
Like most owls, the species is generally nocturnal, retiring to roost in secluded spots within the branches of trees.
The morepork feeds on larger insects and small vertebrates, hunting by pouncing on them from tree perches.
As with all owls, the morepork has supreme night vision and excellent hearing, able to locate a tiny lizard or rodent from many metres above and away. They then stealthily approach their targeted prey with near-silent flight, without flapping their wings, the prey often not even aware they are being pursued.

What's one of your goals for 2025??

Mine is to do the Coastal Pacific from Picton, NZ. To Christchurch.
Something I've wanted to do for a very long time, but its just never happened.
2025 is the year, I'm going to try my very best to make it happen.

So keep an eye out this year for photos and my experience on the Great Journeys New Zealand costal pacific train.
