Picnic in the Park returns to Pollard Park this April to celebrate International Earth Day. Marlborough Events Ltd is proud to be organising the event in conjunction with Envirohub Marlborough.

More details will be announced soon. In the meantime, we are looking for stallholders and environment groups to join us for the day. All stallholder products must be either environmentally friendly, fair trade, recycled, organic or similar. If in doubt contact us to see if you fit the criteria.

We're perfectly fine with the fact that the sun is shining and the event limit has been lifted so Marina 2 Marina could have gone ahead today as planned.

Honestly, it's absolutely FINE 😏🙃😁.

Hooray, it's our postponed event day 🥳. Except once again it isn't 😭.

Fingers crossed that it will be third time lucky later in the year when we’re back to our usual mid-October date. We’re as motivated as ever, ok we may have briefly channeled the feelings of this runner who wasn’t so pleased to see a photographer at the top of the hill. But I’m guessing that’s no different to the rest of NZ.

Motivation in check and let the planning begin, October is going to be awesome. And no, we're not at all bitter that the sun is shining and we could have gone ahead with the event today anyway now that the outdoor event limit has been lifted!!!

We are sad to announce that we have made the decision to cancel Marina 2 Marina which was scheduled to take place Saturday 26th March, postponed from 9th October 2021. Given the current circumstances, we cannot be certain that we will be back in the orange level of the Covid-19 Traffic Light Framework by March. We have considered all options and separating competitors into groups of 100 is not feasible in a race where runners return on the same narrow track that they run out on. Plus, we cannot guarantee having enough staff, contractors and volunteers to run an event of this size with the Omicron variant in the community.

None of us can predict how the situation will unfold and there is always the chance that the event could go ahead in March. But it would not be sensible to risk our event, our sponsors funding and most importantly our customers health. Making the decision now give’s everyone the clarity required to amend travel plans.

The next Marina 2 Marina will now take place on Saturday 8th October 2022.

All entries will be transferred to the October event. Competitors have been sent an email with information on refunds, accommodation, and ferry transfers. If you haven’t received it, please check your junk mail or email [email protected].

The announcement that all New Zealand has moved to red in the Covid-19 traffic light system has once again put Marina 2 Marina at risk. We are reviewing what this means for our event due to take place on 26 March 2022 but with over 8 weeks to go, we do have some breathing space to monitor the situation over the coming days/weeks.

Sometimes our sponsors go above and beyond and Marlborough Sounds Marinas have shown us once again why they deserve their place as our Platinum Sponsor.

For Marina 2 Marina to go ahead under the new COVID-19 Traffic Light Framework, we must fence off the event hub and scan everyone's vaccine pass on entry. We were staring down the barrel of a budget blow out until our Platinum Sponsor came to the rescue and offered us their fencing normally used for cruise ship visits. Their exact words were "don't worry, we'll sort it all, just tell us where and when".

Fencing may not be a very sexy subject but it saved the event. Marlborough Sounds Marinas quietly back their community with genuine partnerships and professionalism. We can't thank them enough.

WOW, we were blown away with the success of the inaugural Waitohi Picton Open Studios this weekend. Thank you to everyone who visited our artists and to those who purchased a piece of art, you really made us feel special.

It was lovely to meet everyone and we hope we inspired you as much as you did us. We can confidently say this won't be the last Marlborough Open Studio event.

Introducing the artists opening their creatives spaces for the Waitohi Picton Open Studios event.

And last but by no means least, today's artist is Kaja Jungersen. Kaja says "My work is informed by my whakapapa – Danish, Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Waitaha and Irish descent – and my life experiences in Aotearoa, overseas and Te Ao Māori."

Kaja's studio is a short drive from Blenheim at 164 Flaxmill Drive, Rarangi.

Today's artist is Renate von Petersdorff. Renate says "I love working and creating with clay after 24 years and being inspired by nature around me."

Renate's studio is approximately 9km out of Picton at 810A Queen Charlotte Dr RD1.

Today's artist is Viv Watson. Viv says "In my workshop in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds I create many items, including felted bags and fibre pots. My first love is wool, such a versatile fibre, but I play with a variety of natural fibres including harakeke.
