One of the impacts of colonization on indigenous cultures is the sustained erasure of trans and gender-diverse people from mainstream social structures.

Where once they were the traditional healers, spiritual leaders, knowledge bearers and in charge of running households, a lot of transgender people in recent times have been diminished to s*x work, which can further play into the negative stereotypes that ostracize them within their local communities.
