Why spend NYE anywhere else?

Mountain Club’s New Year’s Eve party is where Queenstown’s best people and good times collide.
No queues, no fuss—just epic vibes, front-row seats to the fireworks, unbeatable views and a night you’ll actually remember.

It’s the only place to ring in the New Year right. Included on the night are free-flowing cocktails, bubbles, beers and wine, plus light bites against the backdrop of DJ Teo and the Remarkabkles.

It’s the first time we’re opening our doors for NYE so be part of 2025 history and join us. Tickets are:
🍸$150 for members
🥂$200 for guests of members (if you bring at least three)
🍹$275 for non-members

Please note this is an R18 event.

Email Emma to get your ticket [email protected]

Supporting the next generation of change-makers.

Shining a light on students from Wakatipu High School who took home the Wakatipu Community Foundation’s Spirit of the Wakatipu Gala, Rising Star Category. Mountain Club was very proud to sponsor this category for a second time.

With their innovative water filtration and tree lucerne projects, they’re supporting farmers manage drought and make the most of heavy rainfall.

These projects, first inspired at the Girls who Grow Imagination Challenge and nurtured by mentors, have grown into impactful prototypes, pilot programs, and expansive business plans. We hear that Rose Kidd has been fundamental at raising the profile of agricultural and horticultural studies at the Wakatipu High School.

This December, they’ll showcase their hard work at Lake Hāwea Station, back where it all began for Girls who Grow. We’ll be there to see how we can help them grow. We’ve also got a podcast record in the works so watch that space too!

It’s a great read covering Simpro’s humble beginnings to becoming a global leader with hundreds of employees, $100M USD in recurring revenue (ARR), and a valuation well over a billion dollars.

Mountain Club exists to connect people.

We’re in good company with Ed Cruikshank as he uses art and objects to connect us with people, places and memories we hold in our hearts.

His core values as a furniture designer were shaped early in his adult life whilst living in England, where a love of fine cabinet-making led to a degree in industrial design, followed by a decade working alongside Viscount Linley and some of the world’s most talented craftspeople.

We have some of Ed’s Braille art incoming to accompany the two leather Rufus chairs we have on loan. We can’t wait to show you part two of this Artists in Residence update!

We’re also going to be recording a podcast with Ed from these very chairs at the end of September to extend the conversation around the connection these pieces cultivate.

Thanks for being a valued member of our community

Mountain Club’s Global Membership has your next Dubai stopover sorted with access to our partner club, Neera.

Neera in Dubai offers a discreet haven of freedom with incredible dining concepts and world-class luxury experiences under a single roof. Spread over two floors, the 20,000 sq ft space in Al Habtoor City includes seven unique rooms, designed to fit any day to night agenda, including a selection of restaurants, an outdoor roof terrace, a cigar lounge and multi-functional meeting and co-working space.

Neera’s Director Jean-Pierre Muller walked us through our first UAE partner club and gives us an insider’s view of what Mountain Club members can expect. Spoiler: expect fun and luxury synonymous with Dubai:

1. What does the perfect day look like in Dubai for you?

A perfect day in Dubai starts with an early morning stroll along the pristine beaches, followed by a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. Afterward, I’d indulge in a leisurely breakfast at one of Neera iconic venues offering all day breakfast, Belgravia. The afternoon would be spent exploring the cultural gems of Dubai, perhaps visiting the Dubai Opera or the Dubai Design District for some inspiration. As the sun sets, I’d retreat back to Neera, where I could unwind in our luxurious spaces, enjoy a curated selection of fine dining, and network with other like- minded individuals in a relaxed, exclusive environment. The evening would end with a fine selection of Cuban ci**rs and delicately selected whiskey to match the cigar flavors in our Peacock Lounge.

Community is in Mountain Club’s DNA.

It’s easy for Mountain Club to serve the community when it is as special as the one we live in. Giving back is a considered part of Mountain Club’s business strategy and one we all feel very passionate about.

Since 2019 we have donated over $40,000 to charitable organisations in the Queenstown-Lakes region and beyond from .

Mountain Club members contribute to the The Mountain Club Community Fund throughout the year via various initiatives and events. The driving force of the MCCF is to help secure a brighter future for our community which makes our sponsorship of the Rising Star Category in the Wakatipu Community Foundation’s Spirit of the Wakatipu Awards a no-brainer!

The Rising Star (under 25 years) recognises youth making positive change in the Wakatipu. We’re thrilled to promote this category of future thought leaders leading the charge in innovation, creativity and community.
battrick took this award home two years ago and we’re looking forward to seeing what future changemaker will be chosen this year. We urge you to nominate anyone (all very easy from the link below) making positive change in their lives and inspiring peers along the way.

Nominations are open to recognise and acknowledge those who embody the Spirit of the Wakatipu. Winners will be awarded at the Gibbston Valley Spirit of the Wakatipu Gala on Saturday 19 October. We can’t wait to celebrate our special community spirit in October! We are proud to stand alongside other local businesses sponsoring awards , Jarden Wealth, .

Please fill out the easy and quick application form to nominate local champions or businesses with a cause: https://www.wakatipucommunityfoundation.co.nz/nominations

Our pool table at Mountain Club Beach St has a deep history.

Previous owners, Niky and Michel acquired it in the early 2000s via a business acquisition in Liège.

During the negotiations, they discovered a no-pocket (French) table stored in the garage of a former local pub in the Liège region. The table was in pretty bad shape, but was was transformed into a brilliant 6-pocket.

As you will read on the metal tag inserted in it, the table was undoubtedly built in Ostend (a city on the North See coast of Belgium).

When? We do not know for sure, but we are confident that it was built in the early 1900s, possibly in the late 1800s. Because the tag is still in French, whereas the Ostend region claimed its Flemish heritage in the early 1900s.

When and how did the table travel from Ostend to Liège? Nobody knows, but it might well have been a specific order from a Liège customer. Billiard in general was a very big thing during the 20th Century. There were many clubs and, in the early 1970s, it was commonplace to see a room where well dressed men would play around a dozen of tables in a smoky yet religious atmosphere.

The table was used for several years in Niky and Michel’s Arlon’s home (South of Belgium) before moving to Mauritius for 5 years. During this period, the table remained in a safe storage facility in Belgium (which probably saved it from tropical moisture).

It was just waiting for its most remote trip. Niky and Michele migrated to New Zealand and in late 2018 the table arrived at Auckland Harbour together with all their other household items.

It now belongs in Queenstown, bringing a lot of joy and pleasure to our members. As a matter of fact, it is a very lucky table which probably did not think of such a fortunate destiny when found almost dead in a dusty local pub’s garage.

This week’s Tasting Session with Akarua Wines is an unmissable one!

After Edmond de Rothschild Heritage Wines’ acquistion of Akarua Wines in 2022 we have been eyes and ears to see what the Bordeaux-based wine producer will bring to our wine region.

With a presence in four continents, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage has expertise in areas as varied as vineyards, gastronomy, hospitality and wellbeing. Each of these specialist areas, however, follows the same philosophy: to reveal its full potential in order to offer a unique epicurean experience, equally respectful of the land, people and their heritage.

In October 2022, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage purchased 34.5 of the best hectares in Akarua, a historic and pioneering vineyard in Central Otago. The vast majority of these 34.5 hectares are in Cairnmuir Road (Bannockburn), ideally placed given its reputation as the holy grail of Bannockburn. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains and amid breathtaking scenery, the land here offers rare balanced conditions which are suited to producing very fine pinot noirs. Akarua is managed using regenerative viticulture and organic practices with the aim of being certified in 2026.
