This dahlia season hasn't been kind to me...
Or maybe the ducks haven't 🤣
I won't be selling tubers this year.
I've had about ten flower out of over 100 👀

Yesterday my Dad and I got another 4 scoops of soil in and planted out 70 tubers!

Yes I ran out of stakes and tags...
There always seems to be more than I expected 🤣

Silver Years & Cafe De Paris...
These two were grown by hydro method and have an exceptional root system after only a few short weeks! I have potted these guys up today.
If you want to try hydro just remember when you put them in soil to keep it nice and damp as they are used to being in water.

One of the cuttings I took back on the 26th of October. She's ready for a repot!

I have also done some hydro cuttings- Just to compare, thought it might be interesting.

Excuse my dirty finger nails, I have been digging around in paddocks looking at fodderbeet at work today!

How would you all feel about mixed dahlia tuber bags?
I have sorted through everything I want to plant and after my Dad has a wee nosey was thinking I could sell cheap mixed bags 🙂

Dahlia Cuttings...
I feel like everyone has a different idea on this- But this is what works for me 🌱

What you'll need- potting medium...
I use succulent soil
Good quality potting mix
And perlite.

Cloning gel- I use clonex.
A sharp clean knife
And small pots.

It's a easy way to build up stock of your absolute favorites, my cuttings did better than some of my tubers I brought last year and produced plenty of tubers!

How to go about it? I pot my tubers up on arrival and set them on shelves for awhile. When they start to sprout I pick dahlias that have multiple shoots and cut one off.
I wet my potting medium, use the top of a vivid to make a hole in soil, nip the cotyledon leaves off after dipping cutting in clonex and chuck her in!
