We have another wonderful week of movies for you to watch at the Village Theatre. Several new films you really need to see, several Final/Encores so catch them before they go and a brand new program coming out tomorrow with the GB Weekly.

Tonight/Thursday we have the Final screening of Civil War (R16) at 7:30pm. We may ask for ID so please bring along something to prove your age. Thanks.
Friday at 4pm we have the brand new film with Ryan Reynolds in it. Called IF (PG) This wonderful family film is about friendship, love, belonging and what happens to our imaginary friends when we grow up. Check out the trailer I've posted on our FB page.
And at 7:30pm on Friday we have the Encore screening of The Big Bike Film Night (E). This sold out event is another event for all ages. This 2024 collection has a breath-taking range of short movies that are original, informative, entertaining and most importantly of all – inspirational; all celebrating the fun, adventure, and joy that cycling enables.
Saturday at 4pm we have the last of our Art Beats films called The Immortals: The Wonders of the Museo Egizio (E) voiced by Jeremy Irons. The story follows Kha, the masterful architect behind pharaohs' tombs, as he embarks on an otherworldly journey to the Underworld. This cinematic exploration unveils the mysteries of Egyptian mythology, religion, and funerary customs. A wonder for all!
On Saturday evening we have the Final screening of the Argentinian drama Charcoal (R13).
On Sunday we have our second Cinema classic film from 1951 Strangers on a Train (M) This is a brilliant example of what Alfred Hitchcock could do, continually develop his plot and characters in an atmosphere both creepy and humorous. The film has great dialogue, superb characters, good acting, and naturally superb direction from the master of suspense who is truly at his best here.
And at 7:30pm on Sunday we have the Final screening of the Six Inches of Soil (E). This inspiring and topical documentary shows how young British farmers are transforming the way they produce food.
You can book tickets for all these and our new program on our website.

A wonderful new film starts tomorrow at 4pm called IF (PG). This tells a story of a young girl who goes through a difficult experience who begins to see everyone's imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. A funny family film that delves into what friendships and love really mean. It is PG, more suited for 9 years and up as some scenes may scare very young children. Staring a star-studded cast including Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Steve Carell, Emily Blunt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and many more... a definite watch on the big screen from me. I'll probably see it a couple of times it's that "feel good fun" good!

Just a reminder that all our films have classifications based on the content of the movie. If it's a Restricted movie, we will ask for ID if you look very young. So please pack some ID proving your birth date when you come. And a reminder to parents/caregivers if you are dropping off your tamariki to a movie with a R Restriction to make sure they have ID which shows their birthdate. This could be a passport, birth certificate, or Student ID. Thanks.
It is illegal for us to show material with a restricted label to anyone under the age specified on the classification label. And our staff don't know most of the ages of people attending our Village Theatre, especially during the holiday breaks when more people are visiting our area. Please take it as a compliment if we think you are younger than you are. :)

On Sunday at 4pm we have the once only screening of Perugino: Eternal Renaissance (E). A journey to discover one of the best-loved artists of his time: the painter who inspired Raphael.

A tribute to an artist who inspired great painters in a decisive way, by creating works of immortal beauty. His art straddles two worlds: on the one hand the architecture of Piero della Francesca and on the other the devotional painting. Perugino achieved in painting a perfect balance between human being and nature, reality and ideal. He invented compositions and iconographies that set the school, spread a new ideal of female beauty through his Madonnas, and conceived extraordinary fresco cycles as in the Collegio del Cambio in Perugia. A journey through Italy to discover his great masterpieces, from the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel to the two rooms entirely dedicated to him in the National Gallery of Umbria.

This is wonderfully funny, and a little scary, the franchise finally returns to fun! After the events in Oklahoma (previous film Ghostbusters: Afterlife), the Ghostbusters team returns to where it all started—New York City. The Spengler family story continues with a new group of Ghostbusters led by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd). I thoroughly enjoyed this. A family fun film for 11yrs old and up. We have so much already squashed into the next program there won't be an encore of this, so grab tickets! See you on Wednesday!

On Saturday night the Village Theatre is screening the first of a series of Musicals. First up is Kinky Boots The Musical. (M) This is screening only once so grab your tickets online!
Tony Award winning musical, Kinky Boots comes to the big screen for the first time ever. Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein’s heartwarming and beloved musical, based upon the Miramax movie written by Geoff Deane & Tim Firth, has been filmed at the Adelphi Theatre in London. Based upon true events, this huge hearted hit tells the story of two people with nothing in common – or so they think. Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learn to embrace their differences and create a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen! But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship.

Big-hearted and high-spirited, the musical tells the true story of Charlie Price, the new owner of his late father’s Northampton shoe factory. Trying to live...

New film The Convert (R13) releases this week in New Zealand and at the Village Theatre.
Guy Pearce leads this historical drama from director Lee Tamahori (Once Were Warriors) as lay preacher Thomas Munro in 1830s Aotearoa New Zealand. Arriving at a British settlement, his violent past is then drawn into question and his mission put to the test as he finds himself caught in the middle of a generational blood feud between Māori tribes. This is one NZ film for 2024 to see.
This is also a R13-Restricted Rated film due to the "bloody violence and cruelty" nature of this film. Anyone looking young will be asked for ID/proof of age so pack a passport, or student ID showing birth date, thanks.
