A couple of lovely photos from Thursday night's 'Meet the Growers' event, courtesy of
The first photo is of me with my amazing, team, Krystle and Tamara who made everything in the shop look so good. And the second is of the growers who provide us with so many beautiful bits and pieces to give our work that 'from the garden, just picked' look.

Thanks so much to everyone who came to our Open Evening and met our wonderful growers. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and put some faces to names.
To anyone that couldn't make it, feel free to pop by anytime to see us on Oruanui Street, next to Quirky Pottery!
We're busy taking Christmas orders so let us know if you're after a gift or wreath, we have some examples in our new window display.
13/11/2024
Come and view our selection of Christmas wreaths at our Meet the Growers evening tomorrow (Thursday) from 4.30pm - 6.30pm. We've completely redone the shop window to display these so even if you don't have time to call in it's worth a drive past.
It's a dream come true having a shop window to decorate, I remember driving past a florist in Kingsland, Ak when I was in my 20s and being so inspired by their displays. I thought when I have my own shop I want to be that kind of florist!
Wreath orders are being taken now, we'll have two sizes $99 (photos 3 & 4) and $160 in natural colours like the ones pictured, or if you have any special requests let me know. We make them from dried flowers, rather than fresh so they can take the heat at this time of year and also because we don't use floral foam (bad for the environment). All NZ grown flora, dried naturally and tied with twine, so completely compostable. I'll list them on the website in the next couple of days.

One of the questions we get asked most often is where do we get our flowers... because obviously Taupo has no local flower market. So we thought why not get all our local growers together and have a Meet the Growers (and suppliers) evening. Come along to our shop this Thursday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and have all your flower growing questions answered. We'll have drinks, nibbles and even a few spot prizes. Can't wait to see you there!!

We're having a few problems with our phone today and seem unable to pick up calls. If have called, please try sending us an email until we resolve things! Thank you!

Monday's aren't so bad when you get to go to work and play with beautiful blooms like these... Which do I like more... the bearded iris, the lily, the poppies, the geum or the leucospermum??? It's like choosing favourite children!
We've got a 'Meet the Growers' evening coming up on Thurs 14 Nov 4.30pm- 6.30pm so come along and enjoy some nibbles and meet the people who grow so much of this gorgeousness we get to use.

Krystle doing her best vase impersonation!! We have so many beautiful flowers in store if you're needing something for your home or to give this week. Stock and lilac (if you've never smelt lilac you need to pop in and as it has the most amazing perfume).
Locally grown ranunculus and anemone thanks to and and King protea. All of this beauty NZ grown!!

Spring is the most amazing time if you love fragrant flowers. Stock is just finishing but lilac is just starting.

These bearded iris are so stunning, such delicate, rufflly petals, but such big bold flowers.

It's hard to beat these peach ranunculus as they go so well with every colour!

We're making the most of protea season while it lasts. This winter/ spring we've been using pink kings as they've still got the white middle but have lovely soft pink outer petals.

Snowball vibernum making its first appearance this year. š It's not related to hydrangea as far as I know, but it can be revived in much the same way if it does go floppy in transit, either by putting the stems in hot water or by soaking the flower heads.

Our incredibly popular Fresh2Dry bouquet. The ingredients change depending on the season, but we always include flowers that we know will dry well. The idea is that you enjoy the bouquet fresh and then when it's starting to look tired, remove it from water, place a rubber band around the ends (the stems will shrink as they dry) and hang it upside down to dry in a room with good airflow.

What a great night Saturday was at the Stella Awards! We got runner up in the Canex Business Survivor category thanks to my amazing team. Honestly I think everyone who's in business right now deserves a medal because it's been a tough couple of years.

Part of our service is sending a photo (via email) on delivery so you can see what we made. And you can know when it was delivered. Luckily, because Taupo's a fairly small place, we do most of our own deliveries so we can also tell you whether we had to leave it on the doorstep.

A beautiful heart shaped wreath made for a memorial service. We used orchids, serruria, phyllica and bottle brush foliage so it should look good for a few days out of water. No oasis and no water tubes used so it can be left at the gravesite without creating any plastic rubbish. Just a bit of twine to tie things together.
A little bouquet making video I filmed when I should have been at home cooking dinnerš¤«š”... I can only film these things when the studio's empty and noone's there to see me making an idiot of myself. #mumlife
Ironically as I typed that #midlife helpfully appeared and I guess that's where I am now trying to figure out this technology that keeps changing just as I think I'm getting the hang of it. So last week I finally made myself create a 'How to make a garden bouquet' pdf that you can download from my website (follow the product link. On the video). The pdf is free but if you'd like us to put together some flowers and foliage for you to have a play with in your own space then you can order the DIY bouquet from us.
There is nothing about spiral binding in it and it's not a step by step paint by numbers guide. Instead think of it as a collection of helpful tips and useful advice. The most important being to remember that garden bouquets aren't supposed to be perfect. If you have any feedback or suggestions for other 'how tos...' I'd love to hear it.
A little 2nd birthday thank you message to all you lovely people...š¤šš
Went back to my studio yesterday after a week's break where I just thought I'm going to leave it and what will be will be. So most of my flowers I've taken out of water now and have hung up for drying. Surprisingly I still had a few anemones that just looked like they were reaching their peak. Definitely one of the benefits of getting product direct from the grower - it's so much fresher. They've been hung up along with a couple of buckets of chrysanthemum and these gerbera.
Had a delivery of a couple of boxes that got put with the courier on the 17th to be delivered on the 18th turn up a week and a half later while we're in the midst of this lockdown. Fortunately it wasn't as heart breaking as I thought it was going to be opening the box. Nothing had rotted and most of it we can dry, so yay we'll likely get to use most of it after all just in a different form. @mangrove_creek
Last day of the art trail today. So come see us if you're looking for something to do in spite of the weather.
Finally made my 9 year old daughter a flower crown for her birthday party today. Every time she sees me making one for someone else she asks for one, and usually I just don't have time - especially at this time of year. So it's nice not to have every weekend filled up with weddings, feels like I get to have a summer.
When Iām working with flowers, I feel at home. Itās my art and my passion not just a business. I set up X.O.X floral because I wanted a way to work with flowers that was reflective of my style, my belief in the way floristry should be and because I wanted a business that worked with my family. Late 2019 we finally outgrew my garage based studio and moved into our new premises at 10 Miro St in Taupoās industrial area, giving us more room to create the beautiful flower commissions people having been asking for.
The lockdown period during COVID-19 gave us time to reflect, and made me realise that more than ever my business was needed. Always the abiding principle behind what we do has been to nurture connections between people, their environments and each other. I want people to look at my flowers and feel something, feel a connection with their grandmotherās garden or recognise something theyāve seen growing by the roadside but never really paid attention to before.
Our bouquets and arrangements are created using seasonally available flora that weāve either picked ourselves or sourced from NZ growers. Because weāre trying to be the change we want to see we donāt use imported flowers or floral foam. Afterall Taupo has a cold, harsh climate not a tropical one! Our bouquets are lovingly wrapped in brown paper, with recycled fabric used as ribbons and if you want your bouquet delivered in water weāll put it in a glass jar. Our wreaths are also made from scratch and tied with twine using a mix of fresh and dried flora.
We love doing weddings and itās a privilege for us to create the florals that will be in your photos and memories forever. Because we absolutely love what we do and we do it well you can trust us that whatever florals youāre wanting - be it armfuls of foliage for the marquee, a stunning ceremony backdrop or a gorgeous, flowing bridal bouquet weāll put our heart and soul into it.
A Japanese proverb I came across a while back is - āHappiness is to hold flowers in both handsā and to me itās a reminder to stop and breathe and focus on the now. Hopefully if nothing else thatās what we do - spread a little happiness.
