Tauranga BLUES JAM

Tauranga BLUES JAM Where blues-lovers gather on the second Wednesday of each month (except January) to enjoy and/or play great blues. See y'all.

Bookings for spots, call/txt Simon 027 247 7767 Tauranga Blues Jam is open to all who would like to perform blues material - whether it be solo (with or without backing), duo or full band. Just give us a call (preferably two weeks ahead if requiring backing) so we can schedule you in. More often than not we end up with a full program for the night but occasionally there is room for more casual jammers. Of course we are also there for followers - without whom it would not work!

Hi. Well its the day after the day after the Tauranga Blues Jam and what a night it was. Big thanks to all those who performed, Craig, Hilary, Mary, The Gunsmiths, DMG Band, and to those who made up the two impromptu bands being Steve from Taupo, Adam Pendred, Tim Armstrong, Mike Kirk, Curtis Edwards, and Cindy. Hope I haven't forgotten any body. Also, a shout out to the house band, and of course to Cheryle for collecting the door donations. Have a great month, keep safe and we will do it all again in May.
Cheers Simon

Hi all. We still have a couple of spots left for Weds night so we thought it might be good this time to have a couple of throw-together-on-the-spot type jams for a change. We are hoping for individuals to take part (yes - a jam!) rather than established bands.

So, if anybody would like to take a risk on forming something on the night please do so. Otherwise, to secure a place, give Simon a call/text on 027 247 7677 saying what instrument you play/sing. Keyboard, drums, and bass backline provided.

Morning everyone. I would like to thank all those who supported the Tauranga Blues Jam last night. Once again we were treated to an amazing evening of music by the talented Roger Mclay, new comer Tashina, Craig Norman, Tim Charleston and his two sons - George on Bass and Tom on guitar, The Steve Belcher band with Mike Kirk, Lewis Marton, Debz, and the amazing Curtis on drums, Tim Armstrong on keyboards, The Fine Cadillacs, and also a big shout out to Green Room with their all original songs. And not forgetting Cheryle Everard who tirelessly collects Koha on the front door.
Lastly, thanks to Chill Factor, the house band who turn up every month to make the whole thing work.
Thanks to all and see you all next month. Cheers. Simon.

Wow! What a great start to the year for the Tauranga Blues Jam. The large turn-out was very encouraging and we thank you all for that. Special thanks go to all participants, and also to Cheryle and Leslie for their friendly welcoming at the door.

No offence anyone but it has to be said- as the organisers of this jam, we are acutely aware that some bands can be WAY TOO LOUD at times, and it has to STOP! You are not a better musician just ‘cos you’re loud! There have been several comments regarding this, both during and after the night, so please, all participants be mindful of this in future. Bleeding ears is not a good look! Also, please remember that it is a BLUES jam – not a rock/pop event, so kindly pick material that is appropriate please. Having said all that, we do appreciate your role as entertainers for the night.

Look forward to seeing you all again next time – 12 March. Cheers.

Hi to all the Tauranga Blues Jammers.

On behalf of Chill Factor, I would like to thank all those amazingly talented musicians who have supported the blues jam over the past year. The monthly event seems to grow all the time and its nice to see newcomers finding out about the jam and turning up. There are way tooo many musos to list and thank individually so here's a big shout out to you all.

Also to all those who don’t play at the jam but just come and support the musicians, your support is just amazing and also a big thanks for your door donations. Speaking of door koha, a special and warm thanks to Cheryle Everard and Lesley Sinclair for turning up every month and collecting the koha. It is much appreciated and at times thankless.

Finally, a huge shout out to Chill Factor, (Ken Green, brilliant keyboardist, Glenn Pottier, bassist extraordinaire, Mike Butler, blues harp elite, and of course myself Simon Fenlon, banging the pots and pans in the background. These guys turn up way before the gig starts and are there way after everyone has gone. They bought all the backline out of their own pockets. That’s four dedicated guys for you. So once again on behalf of CHILL FACTOR, here's wishing you all a very merry Christmas and we will do it all again starting in February.

Cheers, Simon.

Wow….what a great night! Great to see such a large crowd enjoying themselves. May it continue to grow!

Many thanks to all the musos for your dedication and hard work. Bands and artists included Chill Factor, Bill Ward with harmonies from daughter Kim, Mary Dynes, Debz, Bad Woman Blues, Jet, Steve Belcher, Sid Attwell Band, Billy Mac (solo), and Doubtful Soundz finishing off the night.

A special round of applause should go to several musos who sat in with more than one band – especially Mike Kirk who was part of so many line-ups last night. I believe he had to learn some 15 songs overall! Well done and thanks Mike!

A big thanks also to the musicians/bands who travel from Rotorua, Hamilton and other places to play. Your dedication and efforts (especially considering that it's a mid-week gig) are helping much to make the Blues Jam the musical extravaganza it has become!

Also, a special thanks to Cheryle and Lesley on the door once again.

See y’all and more on 11 December!
