Performing since 1936, it is one of the oldest continuously operating drama groups within Aotearoa New Zealand and one of a few societies to have its own purpose-built theatre; constructed in 1954, the theatre has since become a familiar part of the local Tauranga community.

ople enjoying all the challenges that theatre has to offer. Aspiring actors and directors will always be welcomed and mentored or if your focus is more aligned to creativity with your hands then the theatre offers many challenges in the set construction, properties, wardrobe, technical, and front of house roles - willing helpers are always welcome. The theatre is available to hire for stage productions, events, meetings and conferences.

We are beyond thrilled to have someone of Matt Bodman’s calibre involved with our play.

Matt’s recent credits include musical director for “Matilda”, “We Will Rock You” and “Wicked”. He also is one of the most “Shazammed” artists is NZ!

The king is here! The royally talented Brendon Weatherley playing KING CHARLES II in our upcoming production of Nell Gwynn.

A note from Brendon:

I’ve been fascinated with royal history for years and what a crazy little time the Restoration period was! A king on the run, a commoner in control and a decade later, transmission resumes. So much drama! And then, along comes Nell, an absolute circuit breaker, who hasn’t been given nearly enough air time.

Reading the script for Nell Gwynn for the first time, one character caught my fancy. Firstly, I had never played a king and what a naughty boy Charlie 2.0 was, with some of the most delicious dialogue. No brainer.

As well as a spectacular cast, helmed by the wonderful Zoë Cruse (who I’ve been trying to work with for years…ships in the night and all that) I also get to work with my mum, dad, son, daughter and beautiful wifey. Weatherley’s… they’re bloody everywhere!!!

The funny and talented Zoë Cruse is playing the leading role of NELL GWYNN in our upcoming production.

A note from Zoë:

I am beyond thrilled to be playing the character Nell Gwynn in the 16th Avenue production of “Nell Gwynn”.

This unlikely cockney heroine, who rises from her humble beginnings in Coal Yard Alley to become the most celebrated actress in England and win a place in Charles II’s heart, is a feminist dream role for me. Having thrived off playing Kate Sheppard in That Bloody Woman, I was instantly drawn to portraying another real life underdog who grabbed London “by the scallies”!

The cast is unbelievably talented; throwing in a live band playing restoration-esque music throughout, immersive elements and professional quality costumes, you truly feel transported to 17th century London and the excitement is palpable.

I am ‘aving an absolute bubble bath re’ursing for Nell Gwynn and fink everyone should be bookin’ their tickets.
