Performing since 1936, it is one of the oldest continuously operating drama groups within Aotearoa New Zealand and one of a few societies to have its own purpose-built theatre; constructed in 1954, the theatre has since become a familiar part of the local Tauranga community.

16th Ave actively encourages anyone who may be looking for a creative outlet or hobby to join in with the ranks of local pe

Aspiring actors and directors will always be welcomed and mentored or if your focus is more aligned to creativity with your hands then the theatre offers many challenges in the set construction, properties, wardrobe, technical, and front of house roles - willing helpers are always welcome. And just like that… we are on to our next production.

This powerful short play set in 1917 here in New Zealand, follows Sister Mary Bartholomew, a nun knitting socks for soldiers during the war. When Corporal Johnny Cooper, fighting in France, receives her socks in a Red Cross parcel, he finds her name on a note inside. Unaware she is a nun, he decides to write back.

This spiritual, dramatic and touching one act play is on during Anzac week; lest we forget.

And just like that, it’s the final performance.

Thank you SO MUCH to the cast, the crew and to our wonderful audience who gave us an entirely SOLD OUT season.

To be trusted with these stories; to be telling stories of women of all walks of life; to be giving them voices; keeping their stories alive… it’s been beyond an honour and a privilege.

The final curtain call tonight ❤️

Another fabulous show last night for our lucky Bay of Plenty audiences. What a cast!

Gentle public service reminder…

Thus far, each performance of “The Va**na Monologues” has had at least one phone go off during the show. Even if it’s on silent, it can still vibrate happily to itself and make an audible noise. This is distracting to our cast and to your fellow audience members.

Just turn the damned thing off.

The reviews keep on coming…
