“Traditional Maori Kai made with Traditional Maori ingredients for modern Kiwi times”
OUR name MacMor is a Mother and Daughter combination.
AFTER working 25 years for the Government Office work Auckland, Palmerston North, Matamata and Morrinsville then 5 years + Dairy Farming South Waikato, Waikato, and Palmerston North things are about to change due to battle of health taking its toll, looking at what could I do now.
MARAE style Hotel/Motel business providing Powhiti and a traditional Maori Kai twice a week in hospitality in a country style setting. Plus being able to host reception and accommodation for weddings, business hui etc. How can I make this dream become a reality even knowing this was outside my financial capability. My planning started in Palmerston North with my closest friend and my daughter, after that thought okay lets bring the scale down to a manageable level.
THIS when it all came together due to seeing the same people each day, weekly in the community at the food rescue services and realized that our people are needing healthier kai options for the diet.
NOW I was one of these people in need for help and was very grateful for what I could get for my whanau. THIS is a amazing service being provided for those in need and whole heartily will support when I can give back to our people, which my Kai is given from time to time to support the community.
NEW journey ..... Hangi started firstly whanau and friends and grew from their and started to selling to a wider spectrum which is exciting that has created and continued as a small business to help provide healthier choices takeaway meals. Now that is not to say Hangi is a quick meal as time is required in preparation and the cooking process is still 4 hours plus. Completed my food and hygiene certificates and applied for a Commercial Hangi provider to aim towards healthier choices for our people.
SINCE then, a Commercial Kitchen and started events, private functions. My first events was for Waitangi Weekend at Te Manawa and was asked to provide 400 Hangi. The left over meals were given our community food rescue Just Zilch. I have also been involved in events at Festival of Cultures, Matariki, plus more since also Catering for Private Functions for those special occasions.
OVER a 9 month period having difficulty with my leg to find out I had a Bone Tumor in my thigh, required surgery needing 18 months to recover, coming back hasn't been easy on the body but my passion to keep moving forward is my strength. My recovery was in Tauranga and Tokoroa and started back late 2018, plus got the all clear in Feb 2019 from Surgeon but check ups still ongoing.
THE Hangi is my healthier choice of kai, due to popular demand extending the availability of kai to include the other aspects of kiwi pellets now is Steamed Pudding with Custard, Paraoa Parai (fried bread), Rewena(the Rewena Lady), KiwiAna menu and Kai Moana (seafood) dishes, Hangi Pie plus those dietary requirements i.e Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Vegan options.
TAURANGA has been a big step and this is going to be an exciting years ahead to expand and will still provide my services to my loyal whanau customers weekly to Tokoroa, Putaruru, Matamata, plus from time to time due to weather and travelling times available to my whanau where it all started in Palmerston North, keep an eye out for those posts.
MORE items will be added to the menu in the future .........… creating other kai is always on the go for KiwiAna Kai too, planning and timing required to make to all happen for you all to enjoy your favourite kai ......
