Amazing news!!

WE DID IT! This is a momentous day for diversity and inclusion!
Following a huge amount of advocacy and work on behalf of our community, YoubeYou are pleased to announce that Tauranga City Council voted to accept the proposal for the installation of a Rainbow Crossing in Tauranga Moana. Just superb!

Set to adourn either side of a new pedestrian crossing on Devonport Road outside the current library, this is a huge step forward for Tauranga Moana and a celebration of our diverse society. Kia Kaha.

Tauranga Moana just grew up a little today. Onwards!

Next Tuesday (10th Sept) at 9:30 AM, Tauranga City Council will decide whether to install a Rainbow Crossing for Tauranga Moana and where it will be located. This is a huge step forward for our community! 🌈

But here's the thing—those who oppose diversity and inclusion might show up to voice their objections. While we respect their right to speak, we need you to show up in support of a vibrant and inclusive Tauranga Moana!

All you need to do is bring your brightest colors, wave those Rainbow flags, and be present at the TCC offices on Cameron Road. No need for confrontation—just positive vibes and a show of unity. 🙌

Please, share this post far and wide. Let’s make sure our voices are heard loud and clear. We’re almost there, whānau! Let’s make it happen! 🌈✨

Are you aged 60 years of age or older, identify as LGBTQIA+ and live in Tauranga Moana or Thames Coromandel areas?

I’d like to talk with you about your experiences of home. As we go through different life stages our feelings and experiences of home change. There is very little research on older LGBTIQ+ people and home, yet home is fundamental to who we are and our sense of belonging.

If you live in your own home (renting or owning), a retirement village or residential aged care facility and identify as LGTBIQ+, please get in touch. I’d very much like to interview you as part of this University of Waikato research project.
