Last Sunday we took Snape to the Pet Blessing service St Stephen's Tamahere. After a good drink of the Holy Water he received his blessing and charmed the hearts of the congregation.

We proudly supported this great cause, raising awareness around the vulnerability of horses and their riders on our roads. Trust me, we have seen it all, from being verbally abused to someone aiming their vehicle right at one of our horse.

We also still travel to special events like weddings within the Waikato.

Thank you NZ Police for getting behind this great cause. We took part in the Pass Wide and Slow New Zealand ride in Cambridge today. Photos to follow soon

This weekend, horse riders across Aotearoa will be taking to the roads to create and raise awareness around their vulnerability on the road.

Organised by Pass Wide and Slow New Zealand close to 50 awareness rides are planned over 14-15 September to promote the important messages and educate drivers around the following tips ⤵️

↔️ 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄: Give at least 2 metres space and slow down as you approach or pass.
⛔ 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝘁: Toot, shout, rev your engine as you pass or drive away.
✋ 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹: Take notice and follow the riders hand signals.
🛻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴: Take extra care when towing, make sure nothing is flapping or making noise as this can scare the horse.

It’s that short time of year again when the road into our village looks stunning lined by cherry blossom trees in full bloom. We braved the wind today and went for a drive, the view made up for it.

We are quite thrilled with Snape’s progress since he joined us again 6 months ago. He’s solely been a riding horse for the last 6 years, now he is happily pulling a tyre. We are taking it slowly, but it is so nice to know there’s someone next in line for when Duke needs to retire.

Yesterday we took a very special passenger for a drive on a stunning winter‘s day. Roxy brought her grandmother Mary all the way from Taupo for her 99th birthday. I loved hearing her reminisce about her youth in England driving Shire horses. So much history, so many memories.

At the 140th birthday of Tamahere Model Country school on Monday.
A wonderful celebration of a 140 years of learning and playing.
It was great to see staff, students and parents dressed in Victorian style, old fashioned games were played and a dance performed.
A big thank you to the school for inviting us to represent the mode of transport of the time alongside NAI Harcourts Hamilton’s vintage cars.

Sharon and Kate Johnson from Waiora Horse Drawn came over yesterday for Sharon who is a very seasoned mini driver to experience driving a heavy horse. She did everything from harnessing to putting to, to driving first at home and then in the road. We had a great outing, accompanied by Jutta and Snape who might be stepping into Duke‘s footsteps one day.

Lovely day yesterday to be out and about again in our gig.
There were a few people sad that they had missed out on one of our local drives with the carriage when we sold it.
I can now offer the odd local drive for one passenger with our gig. Feel free to Pm to book.

Happy Easter! We had a great day playing a little part at the inaugural Easter egg hunt at Pleasant View Equestrian yesterday. Duke still knows the drill and the gig is a much lighter vehicle for him to pull now that he’s getting a bit older. He loved being out and about. Rach Ellis Diane Belcher
