Raw, Classic Raw, Single-Ply, and Multi-Ply?π€
The IPNZ International Powerlifting League (IPL) is a federation that organizes powerlifting competitions around the world. Powerlifting is a sport that consists of three lifts: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. The IPL recognizes different categories of powerlifting, based on the type of equipment and clothing that the lifters use. These categories are:
- **Raw**: This category is for lifters who do not use any supportive equipment or clothing, except for a singlet, a belt, wrist wraps, and knee sleeves. Raw lifters rely on their own strength and technique, without any assistance from external devices.
- **Classic Raw**: This category is for lifters who use a singlet, a belt, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, and knee wraps. Knee wraps are elastic bands that are wrapped around the knees to provide support and compression. Classic raw lifters use knee wraps to increase their squat performance, but they do not use any other supportive equipment or clothing.
- **Single Ply**: This category is for lifters who use a singlet, a belt, wrist wraps, knee wraps, and a lifting suit. A lifting suit is a tight-fitting garment that is made of a single layer of high-tensile fabric. It creates resistance and rebound when the lifter bends and extends their joints, allowing them to lift more weight. Single-ply lifters use a lifting suit for all three lifts, Singly-ply lifting is a skill you will need to learn.
- **Multi-Ply**: This category is for lifters who use a singlet, a belt, wrist wraps, knee wraps, a lifting suit, and a bench shirt. A bench shirt is a tight-fitting garment that is made of multiple layers of high-tensile fabric. It creates resistance and rebound when the lifter lowers and presses the bar, allowing it to lift more weight. Multi-ply lifters use a lifting suit for the squat and the deadlift, and a bench shirt for the bench press, Multi-ply lifting is a skill and an art to use.
These categories require different levels of skill, experience, and training.
The IPLNZ aims to provide a fair and competitive platform for all powerlifters, regardless of their category preference. You can find more information about the IPLNZ and its categories on their website or their page.
