Our apologies but our costume hire will be closed next Wednesday 20th November. If you have an upcoming event you need a costume for in the next two weeks, please come along this Wednesday 13th from 6pm and we can arrange an extended hire if needed. We have some volunteering opportunities available at our costume hire that would suit High School Students.

Our costume hire is open Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and you could choose to come once a month, once a fortnight, every week it's up to you.

You'll get on the job training in customer service, shop displays and cash handling and this can be added to your CV for future job positions.

It's a fun job helping customers find that perfect outfit for their event and the fellow volunteers are great fun too.

Although we have finished our production programme for the year, there is still a little bit that needs doing behind the scenes.

With two theatre programmes on in January, we need to do a bit of clean up of the Playhouse so it's all good to go in the New Year.

If you can spare a little bit of time on Sunday 17th December from 10am-12pm or any time between those times, we'd love to have you join us.

Members, volunteers and supporters of the South Canterbury Drama League.

News regarding our Costume Hire.

The Board has conducted a review of our costume hire financial performance.

In January 2020, we decided to appoint a paid manager, Stevie Cootes-Gallagher, who ran the costume hire along with a small team of volunteers.

Unfortunately, a mere two months after this decision, the global pandemic emerged and the subsequent containment measures profoundly affected our costume hire activities. Like many other businesses, we experienced temporary closures and restrictions. While we did cover some of our costs from government wage subsidies, our costume hire operation still struggled to break even, consistently operating at a deficit, and this has continued as shown in our latest financial accounts.

Regrettably, due to these financial challenges, the Board has been compelled to make the difficult decision to close the Costume Hire operation in its current form and to disestablish the position of paid Costume Hire Manager.

The Board would like to thank Stevie for her work in our Costume Hire and wish her well for the future. Stevie’s last day of work will be Saturday 7th October.

The Board will ensure that a wardrobe service continues to be available for our shows.

The future of costume hiring to members, groups and the public is still to be decided.

The Board will work on this to ensure that the Wardrobe/Costume hire will remain an integral part of our operation.
