Happy Matariki 💫
Matariki is the Maori name of the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises midwinter and marks the start of Matahi o te tau/Maori New Year.
Traditionally, it was a time to honour those who had gone and release their spirits to become stars. Isn’t that just beautiful?
It was also time to reflect, show gratitude and celebrate with our beloved whanau/family and friends.
Here in New Zealand, today is an incredibly special day as we are celebrating the first Matariki public holiday. Today we are uniting under the stars of Aoteroa/ New Zealand ✨
So, happy Matariki everyone! May you take time to reflect, show thanks and share special moments with your loved ones this weekend 💛✨ xx
