MTI 2024: A Year in Review

From start to finish 2024 has been a fun year. First up we moved into of our new home, a bigger space with more toys and a 24/7 weights gym so we can do more of what we love.

We kicked things off in style with a crazy 60-person BJJ Winner takes all tournament that was insane. The fight team competed all across New Zealand and Australia, and every match has been a reflection of the hard work they put in and team spirit.

In 2024 the Fight Team has grown stronger and is now the best its ever been. It’s been inspiring to see fighters start new journeys, others push themselves to new heights and the team help investing in eachother. Cant wait to fill 2025 with new fight adventures, new combat journeys starting and other fighters taking their game up a notch or three.

We no longer count fights, or even wins, we now focus on chasing great performances. Winning is great but what really matters is who we become on the journey, the gains we grow from, and how we work as a team.

This year, we ran six Muay Thai and MMA events, giving combat athletes from all over New Zealand the chance to show their skills and chase the challenge that only combat sports can bring.
Looking forward to 2025

• More fights: exciting challenges to test the Fight Team
• Gym upgrades
• Extra classes
• More fun

Your vibe attracts your tribe, we are lucky to have such an amazing group of members, fighters, trainers, and supporters.

Thank you to all the supporters and everyone in the combat community have a safe and kind Xmas and New Years and see you in 25.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT 71

Wow what a show, the Combat Scene is fire MTI repped it well with 11 Fighters on the card it was a busy night in the house.
The team was on point, focussed giving some of our best ever performances against tough skilled and dangerous opponents everyone fought to the best of their abilities and supported each other – repping MTI with pride.

1. Navman lost against Callum Davey in a great war and in over 3 times 3 Full Thai Rules in MMA gloves this was a great battle from the start with the crowd so loud you couldn’t hear the bell ring a the end of the fight.

2. Andrew Fraenkel won vs Takumi Hashimoto 3 times 3 minutes of Full Thai non stop action. Takumi is a veteran with 50 odd fights to his name and did he show it his thick solid legs landed thunderous inside thigh kicks on Andrew who battled back with fast punches and knees in a great battle of skill. Andrews hard work is paying off with better performances every outting

3. Freeman fishboy won vs Dennon Major Payn in a FTR rules fight over 3 times 3 minutes Freeman managed to avoid the crazily dangerous and powerful punches of Major Payn and landed some powerful head kicks to gain an 8 count and then finish the fight.

4. CCC Calm Chris Cox won vs the impressive Mr Anthony Lauagiagi 73kg in another Full Thai rules battle over the 3 times 3 minute rounds. The longer rounds give both fighters the opportunity to display more skills and learn more. Anthony gets better and stronger every fight – Chris was on point and slick scoring and then moving and landing some solid elbows in the later rounds to take home the bling.

5. Sanjay Patel vs Chad Spencer 84kg – No Contest

6. Thomas Lewis won vs Eethan Bourke from Rotorua Lee Gar. A tactical and technical masterpiece! In a battle of towering fighters, Thomas shone bright, showcasing beautiful technique and taking home the victory.

7. Clyde Mocnangan lost to Josh Deadly Quedley – wow what a fight. Clyde took on a very dangerous and experienced fighter. Josh landed some powerful shots and in round 2 Clyde got an 8 Count and then round three was close with Josh getting the win. What a fight.

8. Finn Leary won vs Jux Mckay. Massive respect to Jux for taking this fight on short notice to replace his team mate. Finn showed some fast and explosive power to take home the win the short way.

9. Sagar Solanky Win vs Riley Brown this was a really cool fight. Riley had the height and some super piercing knees. Sagar came back from losing the first round to score an 8 count and then a stoppage win.

10. Jeff Huang lost Adam Raouf- Morton this was a great fight from both first time fighters as they both threw down with abandon in a back and forth affair with one round each going into the last round. With Adam scoring an 8 count and Jeff still on the rampage a the bell -what a fight.

11. Chidumnoro Kelechi Lost vs Cruise Purser. These two juniors started the show off with a fast and non stop fight. The future of combat sports looks bright with the skill of these two.

Post 2/2

What an amazing fight weekend! It kicked off with the fantastic Art of War show, run by the incredible Tony Angelov. We saw Angus step into the ring with the legendary Joey "Southpaw" Hopkins, and Luke faced off against Diamond Lee Gars Kalani Cooney. Both Angus and Luke gave great performances and gained valuable experience—congratulations to their skilled opponents for earning the Ws.

Next, we had Kyle Gallagher's Whanganui Night of Assassins, where Dory put on a driven display, securing a hard-earned victory against the talented Mr Tavares Worley.

Big props to Jacob for stepping up and reffing his first MMA match at Whanganui Night of Assassins on last-minute notice. And to Jess for these great photos—your work really captured the energy of the night.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the promoters for their hard work and dedication, making it possible for us to do what we love. To the team that trained and supported all three fighters, and Alex as well, who was prepared to compete until his opponent withdrew—we appreciate you more than words can say.

Special shoutout to Jacob, Jess, Scarlett, Malachi, Rory, Mel, Steve, and Andrew for showing up and cheering us on, especially to Jess, Jacob, Scarlett, and Malachi for making the long drive to Auckland and then heading down to Whanganui the next day for Dory’s match up and then on to home. Your dedication and support mean everything.

I’m grateful for these amazing people and blessed to share this journey with such a supportive team. We love what we do, and we’re lucky to do it with such a great bunch of people.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT 70

Wow what a show, the team was on fire giving some of our best ever performances ever the team cam away with 5 wins from 6 matches but more than that everyone fought to the best of their abilities and supported each other – and that is all we ask.
If you missed it live watch it now https://www.csn.watch/

Luke was first up and gave his best performance ever and used his fast hands to set up hard leg kicks. Although he lost the fight he won the Life Direct Fight of the night award getting some well deserved cash.

Ethan Kruze Control fought Jack a really hard opponent who came out swinging from the first bell. Ethan weathered the storm and started to land hard punches and solid kicks while showing fantastic defence to win.

Navman had his best performance to date against the impressive Mr Fergus Hamilton - it was hard to believe he was still standing at the end of the fight as Jacob chopped his leg with sharp axe kicks. What a performance by both fighters – the Navman found his win and his mojo.

Alex Cox V Anthony was a perfect performance. Alex scored shots and moved before super dangerous Anthony could land his KO power – score and move was the call of the day. Alex stamped his mark on the scene with that win.

Aidan LM Conradie V Kauri. We have known for a while Aidan has power to burn but now LM is starting to temper this with control and a high fight IQ. And the difference shows. Kauri is well known for fast and slick hands and sharp headkicks Aidan was able to control and nullify these attacks and won with a stoppage.

Calm Chris Cox V James Kaihe. Chris entered the ring to the smooth calm cords of Bill Withers Aint no Sunshine – Chris strolled to the ring with a quiet confidence and knowledge he was better prepared then before and had put in more time, sweat and blood than before. Chris scored feinted and moved – avoiding the scary loaded power of the super experienced James the Juggernaut. Throughout the fight Chris kept on point and landed a superb spinning back kick that was one for the highlight reels as he strode towards a monster win and more top level experience against a top opponent.

November 23 we do it all again - hit us up if you are keen to get on the card

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT 70 OCTOBER 5
THE MAIN EVENT
NEW ZEALAND TITLE FULL THAI RULES
JOSH WHITEHEAD VS BENOIST BERNARD

What a fight!! Josh cemented his NZ Title opportunity with a hard fought win over the tough and talented Dima at Capital Punishment 69 and followed that up with another recent win.

Josh fights out of Ronin with TY in his corner and has been improving every fight with heavy hands and razor sharp knees he is gunning for the top.

Benoist is coming off a top win against South Island Lee Gars Dre Flavell. Hailing from the Muay Thai Christchurch team trained by David Bendall with a host of killers around him he isn’t flying to Wellington to leave empty handed.

Both fighters rolling in to the Title off the back of huge wins who you picking?

Expect the unexpected at any time and definitely don’t blink as you might miss the crazy.

Do not miss this fight and the rest of the stacked card with many Full Thai Rule fights headlining and stacked undercard.

Get in fast doors open at 5PM first fight at 6.

Every so often we award out the Most Improved Trophy. TBH its hard to get - we normally only give it out twice a year and only if someone goes above and beyond. This time the Trophy goes out to Andrew Fraenkel who trains like a demon and believes sleep to be the enemy of growth. Well Earned.
