And for those of you that wish to read my short citation here it is

Megan Parker has become a 2025 Associate of Honour of the Royal NZ Institute of Horticulture.

Megan began in floristry with an after-school job at My Fair Lady Florist in Paraparaumu. After working full time Megan joined Rosemary Flower Shoppe in Wellington. She trained under Denzil Philp, one of New Zealand’s leading florists.

At 24 Megan and her husband Shane, and another couple, opened a large flower and gift business in Wellington, which they named ‘Expressions’, and owned for 10 years. They created flowers for rockstars including Sir Elton John and Tina Turner, and helped create flowers for Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 1995.

Megan’s floristry teaching started in 2002 after they sold their shop. Teaching began as one day a week for six weeks. This became the career she would pursue. In 2003 she joined Whitireia NZ in Porirua for the new Level 2 Floristry course. She ran that course until December 2013 when it closed but continued to work at Whitireia.

Since 2017 she has worked with the Open Polytechnic developing program documents, courses and videos for the New Zealand Certificate in Floristry Level 2. Through this, NZPF has gained 1000 student members since 2019. Megan is Team Leader in Floristry for Level 2 and Level 3. Megan also runs a business called ‘Wild About Flowers’ in Paraparaumu.

In 2017 Megan demonstrated at the Australian Marjorie Milner flower school. In 2018 she demonstrated at The Melbourne Flower and Garden Show and was invited to be Head Floral Judge in 2019. This has continued to the present time (2025). In 2024 she attended the Singapore Flower Festival with two others to study the sustainability aspect of the show and will introduce this to the 2025 Melbourne show.

In January 2025 Megan returned from the Netherlands where she was one of 24 teachers invited to attend an International Teachers Seminar. Gregor Lersch, World Master Florist, leader and visionary for floral design, was lecturer and mentor.

Megan has been an active member of the New Zealand Professional Florists for 40 years, with 18 years on the Executive. Megan has held the positions of Diploma Holder Representative, Vice President, President (six years), and her current roles as National Assessment Co-ordinator and Area Chief Assessor for five years.

Megan holds the New Zealand Professional Florists (NZPF) Diploma and is a Master Florist. She is one of only 13 Master Florists in New Zealand. In 2021 Megan was elected a Life Member of the NZPF.

Megan Parker’s lifetime of distinguished service to floristry is also recognised here by the RNZIH, in conferring an Associate of Honour.

Stoked to have a story presented on our work page. Hard to believe I was in Holland a month and a half ago. Off to Melbourne next week in preparation for the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, opening on Wednesday 26th March.

Last fun class of the year. Time to be creative with materials that will last. Plus you take home a fresh piece that can be used on the table, bench, window sill you decide. This piece has fresh flowers, so closer to Christmas you can replenish.
The 11am class has sold out with a few places left at 9am or 1pm.

What a treat to work with clients that want something natural for a photobooth back drop. This was so much fun to bring the outside in. Beautiful Charlotte worked with me, she is one of my delightful students from Open Polytechnic floristry course. Thanks Lisa and Milsey for letting us do our thing. Everything thing in water. Totally foam free.

Singapore Flower Festival had so much to offer, so many designers to view. Not just the main competitions on level 6, level 4 had wonderful pieces too.

These wonderful balcony gardens at the Singapore Flower and Garden Festival have attracted lots of interest. Amazing what they can pack into a small space.
