Duty Managers wanted 🙌
Food Envy are seeking skilled and experienced Duty Managers to join our team on a casual basis.
As a casual Duty Manager, your shifts will align with the schedule of our functions and events. This means your work hours will vary depending on when events are taking place.
The successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience in the events and hospitality industry and will work closely with and under the guidance of our Event Manager. This role is crucial in ensuring the seamless ex*****on of functions & events, delivering an exceptional experience for our clients.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Packing in, setting up, running and packing out events and functions. Under the supervision of the Event Manager or solo.
- Supervising FOH catering staff and liaising with clients, chefs, equipment providers.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, to coordinate scheduled events and functions. Including evenings and weekends.
- Overseeing the running of an event, from seating arrangements, to serving meals and beverages, clearing tables.
- Adhering to internal and external venue health and safety policies.
- Demonstrating the ability to work calmly under pressure.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in catering management, event management, wedding coordination or similar.
- Background in food service or hospitality.
- Duty Managers Certificate.
- Full drivers licence.

Our team has worked tirelessly to deliver some amazing large-scale events, catering to tens of thousands of guests and delivering several thousand orders.
We’re so grateful to be part of Wellington Hospitality during such challenging times for our city. A huge thank you to all our supporters, partners, suppliers, venues, clients, and, of course, our team – we couldn’t have done it without you.
A major highlight for us was launching our sister company, Glou Glou – an espresso and wine bar – and winning Outstanding Caterer at the Wellington Hospitality Awards. What an amazing way to top off the year!

On Monday night, we had the privilege of running the food service at the Wellington Hospitality Awards.
In collaboration with five incredible venues and chefs from the Wellington region, we presented this menu:
• Te Kouma oysters with accompaniments (Wildfish & August)
• Taro and seaweed, sous vide pāua, miso aioli (Tora Collective & Food Envy)
• Butterfish ceviche, tostada tart (Strait Speared & Graze Wine Bar)
• Tunisian potato & pea pastry (Capital Produce & Laura Greenfield)
• Venison tartare with albacore tuna mayo, crostini (Awatoru Wildfood & Floriditas/Loretta)
• Seasonal pickles in lettuce cups (Little Farms & Everybody Eats)

We were incredibly honored to be named a finalist for Outstanding Caterer alongside so many amazing caterers in the Wellington region. Winning the award is truly the icing on the cake! 🎉
Another highlight of the night was collaborating with five other chefs/venues to create canapés for the evening’s service. We can’t wait to share more about the food later this week—stay tuned!
This achievement is a testament to our hardworking team, who go above and beyond every day to deliver exceptional catering to Wellington.

Food Envy are looking for a casual Prep Chef👩🍳 for the busy summer season.
Pay dependent on experience, starting @ $26 an hour
We are looking for an ambitious Prep Cook to assist in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen.
You’ll perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
A great prep cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job.
You will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organised and easily accessible
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, taking out trash etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
Requirements and skills:
- Proven experience as prep cook
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; Training from a culinary school will be an asset

While we’re here to help and guide you through the process, sometimes you just need to try the menu for yourself to see if it’s the right fit for your event. That’s where a tasting comes in. You’ll join us at our headquarters where we sit down and go through the menu items that are of interest to you.

With over 20 years experience in kitchens, Taz took the leap and set up Food Envy in 2012 – a way to share his love of good food and hospitality.
Leaving school at the age of 16 to work in the restaurant industry, Australian native Taz worked through the cheffing ranks in his home town of Hobart, Tasmania. He moved on to acclaimed establishments in Sydney, Nelson and Queenstown, before settling in the capital which he now calls home.
What started as a one man operation (taking orders, preparing food, delivering and dishes!), expanded into a duo with wife Sarah. It wasn’t long before Food Envy took off and developed into a full catering team – all self-confessed foodies out to share their hospitality with you!
