Food Envy are looking for a Prep Chef👩‍🍳

Fixed term Sept - Dec
Pay dependent on experience, starting @ $26 an hour

We are looking for an ambitious Prep Cook to assist in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen. You’ll perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes.

A great prep cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job. You will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.

Responsibilities:
- Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organised and easily accessible
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, taking out trash etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned

Requirements and skills:
- Proven experience as prep cook
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
- Very good physical condition and endurance
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; Training from a culinary school will be an asset

🥐Pastry Chef Wanted🥐

We are looking for a full time qualified pastry chef with a minimum of 3 years experience. Someone who is an overall team player with great communication skills, who is well organised, clean, well presented, can deal with stress and come up with solutions while keeping composed when challenges arise.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Bake sweets and cakes, cabinet foods and make pastries for the company.
- Develop daily baked goods and condiments that are seasonal and fresh.
- Develop and grow the baking and pastry department alongside the Head Pastry Chef.
- Provide daily morning baking to ensure both savoury and sweet baking is fresh for our customers.
- Work on development of new food products.
- Control mixing processes and oven controls.
- Have excellent food presentation skills.
- Eliminate food wastage.
- Assist in all kitchen areas where needed.
- Monitor the baking processes to identify needed adjustments.
- Get information from production schedules and recipes.
- Complete all Food Safety check sheets diligently and report any incidents as set out in the Food Safety Programme.
- Team involvement to get all duties completed. Assist others in the team where needed.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss any issues or make recommendations to improve productions, process, company culture or anything else you wish to raise.
- High level of hygiene and presentation.
- Work calmly under pressure.
- Passion for patisseries, baking and self-motivation.
- Implement products by following recipes or creating new ones.

Skills & Experience
- Experience in lamination, baking, desserts and pastries
- With knowledge on how to use pastry equipment
- Will need a flexible working schedule over 7 days with some early starts (as early as 3am)
- Catering experience a plus
- Driving licence a plus
- Passion for food

About The Role:
Full time 40 hours, based on a 7 day roster.
In this role, you can expect to work primarily on weekdays, with occasional shifts scheduled for evenings and weekends..
This role offers excellent career advancement opportunities, enabling you to enhance your specialized skills and knowledge as you refine your craft.
As a Chef de Partie, you'll acquire a diverse range of transferable skills including organization, communication, problem-solving, multitasking, diligence, and attention to detail. These skills are valuable across various roles and industries.

*Responsibilities*
- Preparing, cooking and presenting high quality dishes within a specialty section
- Assisting the head chef and sous chef in creating menu items, recipes and developing dishes
- Preparing meat and fish
- Assisting with management of health and safety, food and hygiene practices
- Assisting with management of Commi Chefs
- Overseeing the maintenance of kitchen and food safety standards
- Managing portion, waste control & ordering. Monitoring stock & ingredients within the kitchen and reporting any shortages to your manager.

*Requirements for this position*
- Minimum of 3 years of industry experience, with 1 year of relevant experience
- Awareness of manual handling, control of substances hazardous to health regulations and chemical safety
- Experience in use of kitchen equipment including dangerous equipment such as knives
- Understandable level of English, spoken and written
- Food safety certificate
- Team player qualities, positive and approachable manner
- Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes

We had an awesome turn out to our first After 5 event, hosted in collaboration with The Wellington Chamber of Commerce . Our teams at Food Envy and Glou Glou came together to put on an evening of food and drinks in The Atrium, showcasing what can be possible in our newest event venue.

The guests were treated to sparkling wines and canapés on arrival, followed by roaming snacks, a nori taco bar, a dessert bar, bespoke wines, craft beer, sodas and a surprise Glou Glou treat box to take home. A huge thank you to everyone who came, we loved seeing old and new faces and hope you all made some new connections.

Food Envy are looking for a Delivery Driver/Kitchen Hand to assist with deliveries to customers but whose also not afraid to get stuck in undertaking kitchen hand duties and assisting the chefs with some basic food prep!

We want someone who is an overall team player with great communication skills, who is well organized and able to independently manage their time and has a good sense of direction. You are the face of the Food Envy business and have direct contact with our clients, so a passion for customer service is a must!

Varied shifts throughout the week, but must be available Saturdays and Sundays.
