Dear chamber music fans,

Hot on the heels of our last concert, we offer another: on Friday 11th of September, just a week away! The concert will feature Karori Classics faithfuls, the fantastic Koru trio. If you love Beethoven, this concert is for YOU. On the programme are two pieces by the master. Anne Loeser (violin) and Rachel Thomson (piano) will play his Romance in F, then they'll be joined by cellist Sally Isaac to play his trio "Archduke" op 96.

In light of Beethoven's own hearing struggles, the Koru Trio have chosen to support Deaf Aotearoa, so all donations will be going towards their important work.

A note about our entry koha: we give a suggested amount for the donation, but there is absolutely nothing to stop you donating more, should you choose to do so. By the same token, please just come and give what you can! Tell all your friends and whānau, and invite them to come along too. Let's celebrate the wonderful music, help our community, and get a buzz going about it!

Dear chamber music fans,

You are warmly invited to join us for a string quartet feast. You’ll even be getting one of your 5+ a day— our fabulous musicians will be playing “The Carrot Revolution” by Gabriella Smith. We can’t wait to hear Simeon Broom, Julia Broom, Sophia Acheson and Ian Greenberg play this new-to-us music. They bring a rich combined experience and incredible skills and expertise. And we can’t forget the other wonderful pieces on the programme, Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony and Ludwig van Beethoven’s very first string quartet op 18 no 1.

The charity benefiting from this concert is Women’s Refuge. Please come and join us to generously support this local organisation in their important work.

Dear music lovers,

Prepare yourselves for a HUGE Matariki treat! On Friday, July 10, we welcome friend of Karori Classics and percussionist extraordinaire Thomas Guldborg to the stage. You can expect some exciting marimba sounds, and witness a special appearance by the other members of the NZSO percussion section. Those of you that came to Thomas' last recital will know that it is quite an adventure and highly entertaining!

This concert is for the benefit of KidsCan. Thomas’s cycling team, The Fat Father’s Club, has made the ambitious goal of raising $200,000 for KidsCan this year. Let’s help them and listen to some great music together as well! Tell all your friends!

Dear Friends,

Back by popular demand, we present to you some of the finest young musicians of their generation, right here on your doorstep. It turns out we have so much talent in the Wellington region (and Karori!) that it is really hard to narrow it down to one evening. Our next concert will focus on some of these young musicians playing up a storm around the place.

As part of this concert, we will present a selection of some of the highlights from Chamber Music New Zealand's Chamber Music Contest so far. We cannot speak highly enough of the dedication, commitment and the wonderful music these students bring to us. Come and see for yourself!

When: Friday June 19, 7pm
Where: St Mary’s Anglican Church, Karori
Who: Young musicians from Karori and greater Wellington.
What: Works by Arnold Mendelssohn, Haydn, Danish String Quartet, Beethoven, Lalo, Dvorak, Hahn and Werner de Bl**er.

Dear Music Lovers,

It is that exciting time of the year when we can finally have our first Karori Classics concert. On the musical menu, we are serving up works with French horn (ou la la!) violin and piano. The wonderful Brahms Horn Trio is on the programme, preceded by a showy piece for horn and piano, "En Foret" by impressionist composer Eugene Bozza, and Fritz Kreisler's charming "Schön Rosmarin". Two of our musicians are known and well-loved by Karori Classics audiences: Beth Chen (piano) and Christine Wang (violin). They'll be joined by horn player Sebastian Dunn, who audiences may have seen and heard in the horn section of the NZSO.

The proceeds of this concert will go to the Wellington Brain Injury Association.

We are really excited to be bringing this lovely programme to you. Please spread the word and let's get a big crowd to usher in the 2026 Karori Classics season.

You are in for a treat! We are excited to present our upcoming concert on Friday November 14th. Duo Takirua, comprising marimbist Thomas Guldborg and double bassist Oleksandr Gunchenko, will be performing some well-known classics and some thrilling newer works, and are set to put their own spin on both. A unique combination of timbres and musical styles, Duo Takirua will guide you through their own arrangements with effortless virtuosity.

Your entry donation will be used to support Voices of Children, a charity which helps children affected by the war in Ukraine.

Dear Friends,

Thank you again to all of you who were able to join us in supporting our talented young musicians earlier this month. Hot on the heels of that concert is our next offering: the dynamic duo of prominent Wellington musicians violinist Christine Wang and pianist Rachel Thomson. They will present an engaging and virtuosic programme which will hopefully help to warm the cockles of your hearts. (Don't worry, we will have the heating on too!)

Dear Friends of Karori Classics,

At around this time last year, we shared a concert which showcased some of the extraordinary young talent we are surrounded with in Wellington. Due to the success of that concert, we decided to do the same this year.

The young people you will hear next week have worked very hard to prepare for the National Chamber Music Competition, rehearsing together for many hours and attending lessons with world class professional musicians and teachers.

Come and celebrate the beautiful playing of our young people next SATURDAY. They will play music by Théodore Dubois, Joseph Haydn, Maurice Moszkowski and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The musicians will be supporting Barnardos Aotearoa with this concert. Please come and support kids supporting kids!

When: SATURDAY 2 August, 7pm
Where: St Mary's Anglican Church Karori
Why: Because it's going to be a great concert and we all get to share the moment

Kia Ora Music Lovers,

We have a treat lined up for you. An evening of music for string quartet and flute with the Elouan Quartet and Bridget Douglas. Written in the late romantic style, both of the quintets, by Amy Beach and Arthur Foote, are full of colour and lush beauty. An early Beethoven string quartet and a short and sassy quintet by Ginastera round out the programme.

The Elouan Quartet consists of violinists Jessica Oddie and Anna van der Zee, violist Alexander Macfarlane and cellist Ken Ichinose.

Please come and support us and our chosen charity, the Mary Potter Hospice. Bring lots of friends and stay for a chat and refreshments after the concert!
