Open Mic Whangamata is a place for performers to play, jam, speak, entertain and support each other on their creative journeys. All welcome.
At all stages of development. This page is a platform for communication and supports musicians and performers (spoken word, comedy, poems - whatever you love doing!) in and around Whangamata. This local group of performers is growing and it is a wonderfully supportive environment for young and old, at all stages of their development. We welcome visitors and travellers to join us too!
Hi folks. Well this Sunday will be the final Open Mic night for 2023. We will be set up and ready for an earlier start time of 4pm running through until 6.30/7pm depending on how many turn up. Look forward to seeing you all there - Smoky Pallet 4-7pm Sunday 26/11/23.🎤🎸
Keep Sunday 26th free for the last Open Mic night of 2023. The October night was very poorly attended due to the country being in a state of depression following the All Blacks World Cup loss and an anticipated cyclone arriving! Could I please have some feedback on the timing of this event. Historically we have been "open" 7pm till 9pm. Would it be better supported if we started at 4pm and went through till 6.30/7pm? Its been a fantastic Beach Hop week, blessed with excellent weather, music and classic cars rumbling through our beautiful town. Finish the week off with a night at the Smoky Pallet tonight 6-9pm with the Whangamata Open Mic group. This is a monthly event hosting anyone who wishes to come along and sing, play an instrument or anything else to entertain the crowd. It's a fun night so hope to see you all along there. Karaoke available.
It's going to be a busy week in Whangamata with the Annual Beach Hop festival. Close the weekend out next Sunday 26th March with a night at the Smoky Pallet at the Whangamata Open Mic night. Time 6pm - 9pm. Mic's, stands, iPad holders, speakers, leads etc provided. Bring your instrument. Karaoke songs available for those who want to sing but don't play an instrument. Come along and have some fun with what is likely to be a great mixture of locals and visitors.

A reminder not to forget Open Mic is on this Sunday at Smoky Pallet from 7-9pm. Book a table early to avoid disappointment. Most gear is supplied including microphones and guitar leads. No drum kit as we are looking to keep this mostly acoustic. If you want to sing and don't have an instrument then we can set up your favourite song on Karaoke to back you. Look forward to seeing everyone. This will be the last Open Mic for 2020 due to Beach Hop next month.
Practice your numbers folks - next Open Mic Night is this Sunday 30th October. Starting 7pm till 9pm. Book a table for dinner beforehand so you're not disappointed. We hope to see lots of new talent. Making a cameo performance this week is Jenna Dorreen (recent winner of Whangamata's got talent). We've got the lads from Blackies and Jaime (also a great Barista at Blackies) coming along to perform. Look forward to seeing everyone there.
